i agree with abolishing incarceration for everything except murder and the like, and abolishing slave labour and inhumane conditions.

but i think prison should still exist in some capacity for murder etc. because idk what metrics exist to confirm that a person has been properly "rehabilitated".

with any other crime this doesnt matter as much, but even a slight risk of a repeat offense resulting in loss of innocent life > the decreased quality of life of someone who made the conscious decision to murder.

in our rush to condemn tough on crime rhetoric i think we forget that victims of crime (and their families) are usually far worse off than the victims of punishment.

i am open to changing my views if there is some compelling work in psychology/health that says different, but as of now im skeptical
