Obviously these people don't account for the whole percent of people who are charged and imprisoned as criminals, and so much needs to change with how we handle all of this but

I don't have personal experience either being incarcerated or being an inpatient at a mental health facility so I can't speak to what a more effective alternative is

When you kill someone op,the family of said dead/killed person does not a give af whether the killer is reformed or not. They want justice and fairness,it’s not about making the killer a better person at that point. Why would the justice system want to humanize a killer when he/she has no regard for human life itself.

Same thing goes for rapist and pedophiles.

Some people should be punished, not reformed. My physics TA in college kidnapped, raped, and murdered an international student. He cut her head off in his bathtub. A lot of the conditions that lead to crime I do believe can be addressed, fixed, and changed for the better,

but we're not at the place where we have such a protection against someone suddenly deciding to murder or rape or molest,

that s*** just... happens. and we have to decide what happens AFTER it already happens
