My thoughts on this is…
Don’t the label managers have the artist in a contract where they own some share of all the music an artist puts out in the artist name?
Also the unreleased music, that is now getting released?
I just don’t understand how vault is supposed to bypass all deals between labels and artists.
James has addressed this: x.com/jamesblake/status/1770984633548587142
Vault is supposed to expedite the process of releasing music. Usually artists would sit on new songs planned for release for a long time. It’s definitely not trying to replace current streaming services though.

Don’t see how what he is saying here is answering my question.
When you sign to a label/manager often it says in the contract that they get … let’s say 50% of everything you make publishing music as James Blake etc.
So I don’t see how labels and managers would not get their cut if the vault pie.
I think the label still gets 50 % of what James makes at vault and that the manager still gets 20%.
But I don’t know. I would love for James to addressed this.
No one the less I think what James is trying to do is great

He confirmed the system for labels collecting revenue is still intact on Vault, just like other streaming services.
Nfts are 100x better than him using a centralised middleman again but their reputation still bad from s***
i'm not sure if i should start a new thread about this, but ever since this kind of blew up on social media James has been signal boosting this random new service that is basically a streaming service for unreleased music.
barring the fact that Vault as a service does nothing that Bandcamp or Patreon doesn't already do way better and seems to be missing key features that would even make it remotely a competitor, this is literally just trading one streaming beast for another and absolutely does not solve any problems. regardless of this though and of all the constructive criticism bro gets on all his social media posts he kind of just ignores them and has been shilling Vault since this whole media frenzy went down. i just find it really crazy and pretty disappointing that this is all bro has to offer after everything he said that seems to miss the point of everything he said to begin with. the fact that he doesn't address how Bandcamp or Patreon do everything Vault does but better or how Vault is better makes me think he's got a financial stake in it or something. that or dude has been so disconnected from the game for so long that he has no idea how Vault doesn't work for anyone except already huge established artists, and again even for them Vault isn't that great because it lacks essential features.
i went ahead and subscribed for a month so everything im saying comes from my first-hand experience. plus there's literally nothing stopping folks from just ripping the songs from the webpage like i did or recording on their phones, which there is demand for because every post he makes about it people are asking for the option to download the tracks or buy them outright, which you can't do on Vault. just thought about this because don't see anyone discussing it outside of his IG comments, not sure if it warrants a thread though
EDIT: my bad i ain't read the thread so people itt are discussing it but these are just my thoughts ig
Lil Ugly Mane's take. He has a few more posts on his ig story
as usual bro is correct
idk if i was already a successful musician i wouldn’t take the advice of a white rapper with a three six mafia fetish
this post is outdated by like 10 years bro catch up
Y’all notice the more popular an artist gets the more bitter they get
There's very few artists not bitter about the streaming cut of the pie (or AI), if you consider this being bitter
This is just the rawest version of the correct perspective imo. Didn't Mac Miller have a piece about going indie? Some artists present it in a more inspirational way, but I don't think the message is incorrect here
if every major artist chose to not re-up with their major label next deal, it'd be catastrophic to the industry
You can also buy Travis's entire discog on Bandcamp for about $10 (i've done it before), so that's a guy really living his raps so to speak.
fr feels like he’s just paying lip service to the “im doing this for all of us especially small artists” like ok how

i don’t give a s*** why the f*** would i be listening to his music in 2024 i wasn’t listening to that s*** in 2012
i don’t think it’s the worst idea in the world a platform to release demos and whatnot but he’s reinventing the wheel. there’s like 5 variants of subscription based platforms to host art

uh because it’s good music but you do you ig
The damage is done on music in this era anyway.
Its been over for a while.. piracy created the need for streaming or there wouldn’t be any money in music at all aka extinction.
Music, then, adapted to current models and methods of getting exposure and became more vapid than ever more and more over the course of a decade and a half until we arrived here
We all thought it was fun and cute to download leaks and rip files instead of buying music with our little laptops and then a (shitty) solution was created (streaming). Now we’re left with what competition for capital breeds in the current market in the already corrupt and degenerative music business.
Mindless jingle jams. So unless we really plan to eliminate Internet accessible music, this is it! Enjoy the artist who came up and survived the tundra of the past 15 years that are students of generations past. The ones that actually care to mix in some iteration of real thought/purpose/and actual creativity into their craft while it lasts because once they’re done or past their creative primes, you’re left with virtually nothing of note in the present.
Keep up with your streaming service subscriptions like never before because the “quality” you hold so near and dear will be fossilized in the exhibits of the streaming museums forever. For you to visit and revisit for life because that “quality” will have long ago reached its expiration date.
And it this point we’re crying over spilled milk. S*** ain’t never going back in the bottle and the version you loved went out of business. Better learn to like skim my guy
unfortunately it isn’t
you literally admit to never having listened to it so you are making yourself look stupid as f*** right now but go off. not replying to you again

never said i didn’t listen to him ever just don’t listen to him in 2024. i peeped his music once and thought it was trash. now i don’t listen to him in 2024 as i never liked his music back then when he was in his “prime”. bumlord
