Yeah man I gotta say the same unfortunately. Granted I've always preferred electronic Blake and a couple moments like Days Go By gave me the classic feeling, but overall this felt like Friends That Break Your Heart part 2 and I was very much hoping it wouldn't be lol. Perfectly fine songs to be fair, just not my thing. At its worst it dips into smarmy territory especially with the lyrics, I Had A Dream She Took My Hand is probably the corniest s*** he's ever written though it does work a bit better in context.
Will relisten for sure though. It's James Blake he always gets a relisten.

Man WHAT
That’s arguably the most beautiful record he’s ever written

Brother I will not lie to you "nothing left to do but grip on that hand" hit me like
first time I heard it
I don't know maybe I've just not clicked with it yet but I was really not feeling that one
I might sound like an a****** but it's my very own opinion
unfortunately for me, his music started to decline ever since he got a girlfriend
I will always respect his older work and trippy voice loops and drums, but this indie-balad sad singing s*** is just not for me, not even the 'trappish' sound he experimented on for a while, very few exceptions like 'if the car besides you moves ahead' and some tracks from the robots album, this one and the self titled are the only albums I own from him, and I'm so grateful he decided to include his CMYK work as an extra EP in the robots vinyl.
I will not directly comment on that statement
Although I remember my friend who is a James Blake super stan used to say (said it a few times between '16-'19) all of James' music is about/seemed like it was inspired by him being depressed and unable to get girls
Although James said it was friends that broke his heart/the root of his sadness, although I guess seeking romantic companionship also be about trying to fill that social hole
Days Go By made my ears perk up for real
James doing a very successful fusion had me feeling 18 again
