Great movie but I thought the way the story was presented was kinda s***. Music was great. Idk felt like it relied on a lot of prior knowledge (which I do have, my dad is a huge Dylan fan) so idk how good it would be for those not familiar with these events
Not knowing much of anything about Bob Dylan, I went into this pretty blind. I came away with an appreciation of him and his music. Timothee Chalamet disappears into the role and delivered one of the best performances of the year. Edward Norton also gives a fantastic performance. Mangold directs the hell out of this thing and the framing of this biopic being over a five year period sets it apart from most other music biopics. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t fall into the biopic tropes, it does sometimes but this film still works a ton for me.
4/5
r u xanman?
still not interested in diving into his discography tho ngl
too many albums/song s*** kinda overwhelming
will gladly take some song recs tho
Ballad of a thin man is my fav song
are you team acoustic bob or team electric bob
overall solid biopic, good performances from everyone but felt like it was lacking tension in some key places. every scene where someone was performing, which is like half the movie, was shot well.
this is still the best Dylan portrayal tho
Ballad of a thin man is my fav song
I always liked Hurricane and wanted the movie to go further into his life than it did

Blood on the Tracks
It's too tough to compare them because they operate on such different levels.
Prince obviously the better musician, composing and playing everything himself. Masterful use of the best voices ever heard. However Dylan got two decades head start on him, and is probably gonna be making good music two decades after Prince has been gone. Has much deeper and wider body of work than even Prince could hope to match. Has incalculable levels of influence that has rippled through countless generations at this point. Both turbo goats anyway.
I look at Dylan like a poet and Prince like a classical composer

Bringing It All Back Home
Disagree but not a bad choice
I like funk more than folk
Dirty Mind, Purple Rain, Sign of the Times and so many more are next level to me

I should add that I think Dylan could possibly be America’s greatest artist. Either him or Lynch, but he might get the edge.
I just love what prince was able to do, mostly by himself, almost from scratch.
Erotic City? U Got The Look? I Feel For You? Dylan ain’t got music like that

Funk vs folk almost a tie for me
Usually give 1970s discography of the decade to P-Funk over my goat Neil even
Prince for the 80s of course. Banshees and New Order hot on his heels though cause I like goth almost as much as folk n funk.

New Order is one album away from me liking them more than Prince
