    真 鍋 ち え みChiemi Manabe - Mysterious Girl

A wild ride of synthpop heaven, glitzy juicy production that will fulfill your unknown sythpop fantasies.
There are no duds here, periodt!!!! and I think the production is by haruomi hosono.

    Full album

One of favorites, this is a highkey bop.

山口美央子 Mioko Yamaguchi - 月姫 (Tsukihime)

This is artpop, the emphasis on Art is important, pop.
This was one of my favorites when I started checking out 80s jpop. An immediate killer, from a musician who practically never missed. More on the ambient side of things but the weird pop sensibilities are still there.

    Full album playlist

    Rajie - Espresso

This album is such an easy nice listen but apparently it's a sad album (maybe I'm wrong and I don't speak Japanese)
But you can feel it. Its the first of its kind that came from that era(imo) with reverb driving the sound of the album and taking the experience into so many interesting turns.

    Full album

My favorite (one of my favorite songs of all time)

    藤村美樹 Miki Fujimura - 夢・恋・人

A mixed bag of flavor. In different colors and different tastes. So many different layers, it isn't avant garde innovative in any way but it really plays with elements that aren't explored in sythpop. Plus miki's voice is amazing.

    Full album

    My favorite, sounds like warmth.

    Kikuchi Momoko - adventure

This is the equivalent of pure relaxation. Beautiful melodies with a sleepy quality to it but make pop. Its strength is in its nuances. Don't sleep on it, it's f***ing fantastic.
    So many highlights.

    Full album

    Junko Yagami - Communication

This is probably the more uk/us inspired album but the composition overall is amazing. A QUALITY POP ALBUM, no complaints at all. IMO this is Control's(Janet) Japanese friend that's a bit brighter than her and poppier. Without the "I'm grown/rebellious" pop sensibility.

間宮貴子 Takako Mamiya - love trip

Omfg this s*** is so nutritious in terms of melodies. Such a smooth beautiful album wow.

    Full album

Favorite but wow this s*** is gorgeous. Sounds really luxurious and expensive.

原マスミ Masumi Hara - Yume no Yonbai

Beautifully weird styles combined together. Some of this has a reggae touch to it which makes it even more wonderfully weird. From the ambient moments to the really crazy moments. You just don't know what you in for and it's an amazing ride into a new frontier ready to explore.
If you love Kate Bush at her wildest hop into this androgynous kings discography.

    Full album playlist

    Wow love this so much

    Akiko YANO - (Tadaima.)

I feel like this album was what you should reach for musically during that era. Akiko yano really combined alot of elements into this album.
Composition/classical elements, pop hooks and elements, weird production also experimentation. This is by far my favorite from her and she has a very strong catalogue.

    Full album

Listen to this track get what I mean by combining elements.
This is really a feat of a song.

I hate the UK as much as the next guy but they killed that s***: New Order, Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, Soft Cell, Pet Shop Boys, Duran Duran, The Human League, Japan (lol).

Yeah but they didn't do alot most of them were using the same drumkits and there s*** was really aggressive while in Japan they did everything you can think of with every vibe possible.
