i dont hate Hov at all, im just saying his discography is super overrated, like yeah he has classics but most his albums got too much filler. Plus Ye would wipe Jay in a verzuz

no they don’t vol 1 only got two outright skips and vol 2 is a good album too so is american gangster all those much better than 4:44

Honestly it’s really annoying how much value people put into discography. Like yeah I get it on one hand but on the other like nobody is dropping perfect albums every single output. Sometimes just dropping a “good” album is fine. You put out essential albums to your genre, have real impact on your culture, your peers respect you and your legacy, who tf cares if someone on the internet calls one of your albums a 6/10

I wanna @ every Kendrick stan to this post

4:44 isn’t a good album. Carried by production.

i ain’t even a fan of that album that much but the production the weakest part of that album by far

RD = Classic that's also his lyrical peak but lacked impact on the year it was released

Vol. 1 = Trendy Mase wannabe album with some lyrical highlights

Vol. 2 = Impactful album with dope singles with above average quality but not a classic

Vol. 3 = Trendy album that tried to recruit numerous hot artists with Big Pimpin being the only classic song

Dynasty = Unoffical group album that was mid and tried to put the Roc on the map before Jay-Z left them in the dust a year later

Blueprint = Classic but more so for the beats than for the lyrics. Jay was still spitting though and there's tons of classic/timeless songs along with one of the most quotable diss songs ever.

Blueprint 2: Trendy album that was mid and was popular cause of damn near everyone but Jay-Z

Black Album = Classic with strong songs and decent rapping

Kingdom Come = Trash album that was a poor attempt of a conscious album(later perfected by 4:44)

American Gangster = Decent album that tried to recapture the magic of RD but lacked impact

Blueprint 3 = Mid album that was overproduced, carried by the features, and inconsistent

WTT = Dope album that was carried by Kanye

MCHG = Mid album that had slightly better production than B3 but the worst lyricism in Hov's career

4:44 = Decent album where Hov finally perfected KC's conscious content and invoked vulnerability and great throwback production.

    EIL = Came and went

    Exactly, Quality > Quantity everytime
Hov has reached some of the highest highs of hip-hop, dont get me wrong and he has classics for sure, but my point is his discog as a whole is highly overrated

Hov didn’t have to sing to become the biggest rapper in the world that itself is an impressive feat most of y’all favs can’t say the same

  • Nov 30, 2021

He has a lot of bad albums for sure, but having 3 undeniable classics is nothing to frown upon.

Add WTT, 4:44 and American Gangster to the list of very good albums. I've always enjoyed Vol. 1, Vol. 3 and Dynasty a bunch too.

  • Nov 30, 2021

Vol 1 and 2 are overall still good

  • Nov 30, 2021

    Agreed.

  • If only he had told Swizz to get to stuffin throughout his career

Didn't have to cuz he can't pull it off

Kanye could sing on hooks from the start

youre right he has some duds

    but he made:
    The Black Album
    American Gangster
    RD
    The Blueprint
    4:44

and that is enough to be considered one of the greats

  • Nov 30, 2021

    Nah

    Vol 1 > Harlem World @retro_77

  • Nov 30, 2021

Vol. 1 probably his most underrated album. Vol. 2 and 3 are both prime grimy Jay. Then you have the classics. Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, The Black Album and American Gangster. 4:44 is good too. Like what are his worst albums Kingdom Come, BP2, BP3 and Magna Carta. They have all have classic songs on them still. Except maybe Magna Carta

He let R Kelly and Linkin Park sing for him

I mean the album I think that is his worst has this song on it.
