    well this was disappointing

I don't mind if a comedian wants to touch on deep subjects, but make it funny. this felt like an intimate therapy session that was too raw to have any real bits or punchlines worked in. hope it was cathartic for Carmichael, but this was more like a one man show than a stand up special

    we're really living in a post-comedy world

Honestly I thought it was great while also agreeing with you. I wanted funny, I got introspection.

Still liked it. It was necessary for him I believe. I would like him to bring jokes to the next special. post comedy is award bait but annoying now

I'm not too familiar with his career, so maybe this hits different for Carmichael fans

but if comedy specials from now on are just comedians working through their trauma with the occasional audience member giving psychological advice then count me out

I'm not watching a comedy special for introspection, I want to laugh

He told his mom he'd hooked up with dudes before. Doesn't mean he's gay though. Also I don't know anybody except me that watched those

    This was a vibe

  • Apr 3, 2022

The last 15 minutes weren't really funny but I still wanted to give this man a hug. One of the best stand-ups i've seen in years

Okay, nah for real it is. I would like to think it’s not staged tho given the subject matter. The questions were annoying to me, what’d you think of the special ?

I loved it bro, you could tell it was personal for Jerrod. He was def baring his soul

I don’t like this new type of Dave Chappell type of comedy like just getting on stage and talking it must feel weird for the audience I understand it’s therapeutic for jerrod

I kinda feel this, Chappelle reading the Sparknotes from a pimp book will have disastrous consequences

I aint watched this yet but like everything in media, comedians are just a reflection of the times and

I mean look at the bullshit we've dealt with the last 2 years wit the pandemic and all the tragedies

the times just aren't that funny rn. Like you said, I hope he was able to heal. I actually enjoyed his tv show tbh.

Exactly. Idk what ppl in this thread were talking. I was laughing hard as hell at parts. I laughed a lot given the subject matter.

  • Hot take, I'm tired of all the introspection specials or the I'm tryna make a statement here so let the funny take a backseat for a hot minute specials.

Equal parts hilarious, devastating, and intensely personal

I just realized the last joke that he tells in his 8 special is like a cliffhanger that leads into this one
