He even said he actually locked in and learned music theory and how to write good records. You think an album that still jokes about rape and has Trashwang on it is not lame at all? Flower Boy is essentially the music he wanted to make since day 1 if you really pay attention.
I just feel like this forum violates Tyler all the time and doesn’t have any valid critiques other than not liking him for who he is. Musically it’s undeniable how much better he continues to be
I guess I just don’t care about maturity or growth bc I found the juvenileness of Tyler’s pre Flower Boy music kind of endearing. It made it feel real. Listening to Wolf really brings you to the Flog Gnaw summer camp. As for musical growth and maturity, I think he’s always had it, and this is really obvious on Wolf. Whatever music theory he learned only helped him market it to a wider audience imo. Flower Boy is good but I’ll repeat what I said before - he has always wanted to make poppy, radio approved rap music that would be ubiquitous. He did it. Really well. But the stuff he made on his way there, before he had the tools to actualize that goal, were better imo.
