OG Selah hits way harder, this is an objective fact
Follow God writing is alright but ye weirdly cut.. i think there was a meek verse orginally? or a pusha? i dunno, but it's good but it's also not even 2 minutes.
On God writing is just f***ing terrible. the production is amazing, but
"The IRS want they fifty plus our tithe
Man, that's over half of the pie
I felt dry, that's on God
That's why I charge the prices that I charge
I can't be out here dancin' with the stars
No, I cannot let my family starve"
is just undeniably garbage. "I cannot let my family starve".
we all know what there is to be said about Everything We Need. no cudi, no x, trash second verse... LA Monster should've taken it's place.
Use This Gospel... man, this could've been great. the beat at the end of this should've been the beat for the entire song. no drums, was mixed horribly on release, and serves like, literally no purpose to the album in a narrative sense.
Jesus Is Lord is 49 seconds. nothing to even be said, really
this album was SO close to being a classic. so close. but bad writing, weird production/mixing choices, and weird song/feature cuts at last minute held it back from what it could've been.
i'll never understand why people use a song's length as part of criticizing the song
Follow God is 2 minutes of fire, staright to the point. Same with Jesus Is Lord
Rather that than a 5-7 minute song that doesn't need to be that long
I do hope JIK is like Kanye's Christian College Dropout and he builds on his new sound. A Christian version of MBDTF with Mike Dean break downs and 5-9 minute songs
But I'm never gonna be mad at a short song as long as it sounds good
True there could have been more effort in them. But people attention spans are s*** these days and I think Ye knows that.
So that mixed with his lack of effort in music makes for super short songs

Pretty sure he still can make a top tier classic in the future like MBDTF. He still has it in him, he only needs more time.

It has nothing to do with time

I wanna hear the album a 60 year old billionaire Kanye could make when his kids are all grown and he is (hopefully) still happily married and beginning to slow down with his business and finally allowing himself to take it easy and appreciate the fruits of his labor
Up to this point I disagree about JIK, let me go listen for my 194th time front to back to see if I pick up any of your observations.

I have a different opinion on this. I still like JIK but it is what it is. In addition, today he has 4 children and many other responsibilities
OP btw delusional as always

Imo you could give Ye a decade to make an album and you would still be way more likely to get an album like JIK as opposed to an album like MBDTF. It’s just the way he creates now.
But yeah dumb thread

Still think that's just a phase of him but yes, you can be right with that

the writing is not that bad on this one. ITs actually pretty good especially considering he didnt talk about girls or swear or anything like that. I do agree that the album was close to being a classic if he had just given it more length and thrown on 4 more verses and let the beats run a little more. The 4 verses couldve been guest spots. HEs always been cool with that even going back to college dropout.
Ok just finished another listen. Album is still dope and refreshing compared to most content right now.
When I want CD / LR / MBDTF Kanye, I listen to the albums CD, LR, and MBDTF.
You said "no x" like it's a bad thing..
i personally liked his verse a lot; it had a lot of energy that kanye's second verse doesn't in the released version. regardless, a cudi verse was cut. there is absolutely no way that it was the right decision. no way. you cannot convince me. it can get leaked and end up being ass and i'll still be arguing it should've made final version. it's cudi.
The awful songwriting is what really drags this album down. Even Ye had better songwriting. Selah is the best song though with at least decent songwriting.

i'm not saying he needs to make more CD, LR, MBDTF style music, i'm just saying that this albums potential is completely undercut by weird last minute decisions. not even particularly the jesus part of it either, just the fact that it feels rushed and way to short.
i think this album is truly refreshing from everything else out as well. it's just that it feels like ye didn't make it the best it could've been.

my issue with follow god's length just stems from the idea that it feels apparent an entire verse was cut. i enjoy it for what it is, but it could've been more imo.
i see what you mean, though
Y’all got to choose one place to have the same exact take . All of y’all don’t need threads
Pretty much spot on besides the LA monster stuff, was never really big on that song.
Album could have been absolutely incredible with an extra month or so worth of work

same but i'd rather him just make music of that level again so im not stuck listening to the same albums over and over!
Y'all making multiple threads to discuss your one opinion on the album when its an album thread is killing me
