i'm not saying he needs to make more CD, LR, MBDTF style music, i'm just saying that this albums potential is completely undercut by weird last minute decisions. not even particularly the jesus part of it either, just the fact that it feels rushed and way to short.

i think this album is truly refreshing from everything else out as well. it's just that it feels like ye didn't make it the best it could've been.

I do agree that he had the potential to make a masterpiece by simply leaving a few more verses and having more length to the song. Then we hear a song like last name that he left off and you’re like ok he really really could’ve made a masterpiece. It’s still a good album especially compared to today’s other hip hop but I agree it has even more potential that easily could’ve been realized by Kanye if he wanted.

Some of the mixing on JIK is a problem... still. The mixing on Selah makes him sound so nasal. On God could have better mixing too. Some vocals seem drowned to the point where OG Selah seems a lot more crisp than the JIK one.

the writing is not that bad on this one. ITs actually pretty good especially considering he didnt talk about girls or swear or anything like that. I do agree that the album was close to being a classic if he had just given it more length and thrown on 4 more verses and let the beats run a little more. The 4 verses couldve been guest spots. HEs always been cool with that even going back to college dropout.

i'll never understand why people use a song's length as part of criticizing the song

Follow God is 2 minutes of fire, staright to the point. Same with Jesus Is Lord

Rather that than a 5-7 minute song that doesn't need to be that long

I do hope JIK is like Kanye's Christian College Dropout and he builds on his new sound. A Christian version of MBDTF with Mike Dean break downs and 5-9 minute songs

But I'm never gonna be mad at a short song as long as it sounds good

A christian version of mbdtf ? Bravo for the most disgusting idea of ktt2

I think the tracks leave the listener wanting more and will all translate very well within context of the live Sunday Service shows.

Everyone is overthinking this too much.

Selah has a ton of streams, Closed on Sunday has an awesome Kimmel performance and Use This Gospel has an epic debut live LA performance. Water has a great Coachella performance... the listening parties went well...

What more do you guys really want?

just in terms of how MBDTF was Kanye at his most dedicated and focused as an artist, not necessarily sound wise and obviously not content wise

well, that is the general theme of music discussion, seeing as practically everything when it comes to talking about music is subjective

no, i literally never said ye should've made LR or MBDTF. i enjoy the idea of the album and the theme of it.

JIK could never be his Christian CD because JIK doesn't have any lyrical depth or intricate and layered production

He has this weird desire to to be off the cuff due to the times we’re. The way newer artists might drop a snippet they made that night on Instagram, then the full song days later without any improvement on alteration because they can. I think that inspires Kanye to be more natural in his approach to music but we expect so much more from him. It sucks hearing something that could be better than what it is.

i just meant that as in the same way College Dropout was dope but there was clearly room for improvement
