Wait, I need a list of the studio comedies with strong premises that you've been watching

I heard Adam Sandler went golfing again

When did we ever set the goalpost that it only has to be strong for studio comedy standards? You doing a lot. You said it was a strong premise, now you wanna add qualifiers

I didn't move any goalposts. I called it a strong comedic premise. I maintain that.

Now I'm asking which movies you prefer, and you don't have any because the studio comedy landscape is dire.

Yeah, it absolutely is dire. But I don’t need to have any I prefer to think this isn’t strong. I don’t really enjoy modern film and this premise definitely didn’t change my mind or seem unique.

Being an authority on “miss piggy cancel culture movies” is something to be, for sure. I’m not an authority on a lot of bullshit. You say yourself that the landscape is dire. But you use that to lower the bar instead of acknowledging that really, the whole thing is broken.

Multi millionaires sitting in a room “what if Urkel got cancelled and we put him the context of modern nerd culture” and it’s a strong premise. you can’t make this s*** up

    Great reading comprehension too

Lawrence explained, “Miss Piggy is a feminist icon, and she said it would be so funny if Miss Piggy got canceled. Now, that is not the plot, necessarily, but it got the wheels turning.”

Where is the premise then? You missed the part where I broke down how yes, she claims this isn’t the plot, but it’s also all you’re going on to call it a strong premise.

I feel like your reading comprehension is the one missing the clear subtext. The pitch basically apologizes for itself. “So here’s this movie idea we had…. BUT THATS NOT THE PLOT I PROMISE… unlessss……. Also note the word “necessarily”, interesting placement there that I actually missed first too.

You take Miss Piggy. She's a puppet, right? One we know from childhood? Well you put her in situations that a famous actress or pop singer might find themselves in. Like being a feminist role model or getting canceled. But she's Miss Piggy, the character from The Muppets. In comedic terms, this would make her the odd-one-out. People often find that kind of thing humorous.

So then you write jokes based on those situations. Situations a pig puppet really should not be in. And you have her interact with actual celebrities who engage with her persona in earnest. In comedic terms, that makes them the "straight man". It's a classic formula.

And since biopics are such a trend right now, you open the door for parody. Parody is when you make fun of the tropes and ticks of specific genres. This has historically been a rich source of comedy.

Is this legit what you want me to do you buffoon holy s*** lol

  • miss piggy is an a******

  • miss piggy is a problematic domestic abuser and im sick of hollywood still giving her work.

And what you’re describing is good in your eyes? You talking down to me but the supposed comedic angles are not lost on me, it’s the fact that this formula is as tired and predictable as the biopics you keep bemoaning.

I think this idea of “what if (beloved character) was (topical modern issue) films isn’t that harmful, I don’t care about it that much.

But to praise it as heavily as you did was just funny because cmon, it’s one thing to say that this will be a fun movie. You were talking about the premise like it’s some genius s*** and it’s literally word for word “what if miss piggy got cancelled, but that’s not the plot necessarily”. To see brilliance in this, or even strength, is truly a talent. I envy your optimism

then why bemoan back and forth about a trivial puppet comedy that hasnt even entered production?

ure lamenting the state of modern cinema but elude when asked specifically about films that actually have met your standards. what's the point besides promoting pessimism
