here people were walking out of the theater every time a new musical moment was starting

this movie should have made it abundantly clear it was a musical (I thought they did)

just about everyone I talk about this movie with was not aware it was one and were caught off guard by it

also musicals suck

So basically the made for TV movie and it's influence on Lee is a commentary of the influence the movie had irl on some people. This includes the split reaction especially in the court scene where Zazie's character talked about it being s\*\*\*ty but Lee, who loves Joker, reassures him that it was good. It's a commentary on the obsession some people took with the movie as well as the overall split reaction.
