So are we saying there is no current a list directors who are black? 🤨
Coogler is probably the only one right now honestly

I think we have at least 2 buddy

Peele ain’t on Coogler’s level commercially mannnnnnn
Coogler basically has two billion dollar films plus an original that took the world by storm
Peele needs like one or two more hits before he’s truly A-List imo

See you putting the two against each other as if there’s only room for 1 black A lister

Bro Marvel doesn’t count man that’s a cheat code
Both geniuses and both bring so much value to film
See you putting the two against each other as if there’s only room for 1 black A lister
Huh? I never said there was only room for one black A-Lister
There could be 25 right now, I just don’t think Poole is at that level YET

Poole is one of my favorite contemporary filmmakers, we just discussing what his commercial status is at the moment

Two black men can’t coexist I thought I told you that!

You said you think there is only 1, Coogler.
I said I think there is two, including Peele.
You proceeded to say how Peele doesn’t do the numbers Coogler does. That insinuates for a black filmmaker to be “A list” they have to do the numbers Coogler does. That’s the standard.
I still don’t see how both aren’t A listers.
Also Peele doesn’t have one of the biggest franchises (Disney/MCU) backing him and releasing two of his movies and is still a major name in the industry.
Peele is the new john singleton and get out was his boys in the hood
Way bigger than John

No, I said that because there is a very large gap in the commercial viability of Peele projects when compared to Coogler's. I never said Peele's films had to make the same amount of money as Coogler's for him to be A-List. If Get Out did $255M, Us did like $350M, and then Nope did $300M I would say that Peele is A-List, even though his total would still be nowhere near Coogler's.
Also, working with the MCU does not guarantee a super high box office, their track record this decade proves that. Coogler has three huge hits, plus Creed, plus the indie darling in Fruitvale Station
I love Get Out, I love Us, I love Nope, but the only the first two were really big successes. I don't think two films is enough for someone to be A-List, regardless of race or gender. Plus, I think the three films he produced using his name to primarily promote them and all of them completely bombed kind of hurts the argument for him being A-List.
If we're talking solely about talent level then I would agree he is A-List right now

I think you’re kinda setting your own rules/standard.
If Peele had a MCU movie (which obviously he could if he wanted) that s*** would arguably be as successful as Black Panther. We don’t even need to play hypotheticals with “MCU doesn’t mean big hit”…..this is Jordan Peele we talking about not Cate Shortland, that s*** gon do numbers.
I love Coogler but arguing someone who mostly runs off IP more than originals VS someone who only does original stories with no Disney/MCU backing and still has a big name for himself, one of the biggest in current day. Like I said to me both is A Listers.
Like okay Nope didn’t do the best cus it got released in the heart of a pandemic when people weren’t going to movies and he didn’t have the Disney machine to push through….lmao like cmon bro

Peele only has one more original film than Coogler... lmao, I don't think Peele is against doing IP he just hasn't done any yet. It's not like Peele has cranked out 10 original films and Coogler has done 1... Peele has 3 and Coogler has 2
Everyone goes to see a Jordan Peele movie strictly because of the name Jordan Peele. Nobody knows what the film is about. There’s no Disney/MCU to push it. There’s no existing IP or “this is our first black super hero movie”
We shouldn’t even be comparing the two cus like I said they both a Listers, objectively BUT we not gon act like Peeles name alone doesn’t get the job done.

This is objectively false when Monkeypaw has tried to promote three of their films by heavily using Peele's name front and center and all of three of them s***s bombed

So that makes what I said any less true?
Peele has ONLY done original films while Coogler mostly does IPs. Even his next two projects are IP. X files reboot an BP3

Sure, I’m speaking more on his career arc
You know who had an arc? Noah

Some way somehow prolly in my top 10 most rewatched movies if not top 5
And he did develop snow fall

Peele just hasn't done any YET, you acting like he has an extensive filmography and has only done original work. The guy has three films let's calm down lmao
Christopher Nolan "only" did original films for his first three films as well and then did IP
Zach Cregger just did two originals and his next is IP
Let's see how Peele's career plays out before we make statements like that
