You're probably already feeling accomplished by saying all this, so you're not going to actually follow through with this. Once you get bored again, you'll start wanting to do stupid s*** for the adrenaline rush again. Maybe you just need something REALLY bad to happen as a result of your actions before you truly change.

tbh. when you tell people you are going to do something for yourself nine times out of ten you wont do it off the basis that other people think youre making progress.

When you go out of your way to tell people you're going to do something, there's often a reason why you're telling them in the first place. You want validation, so as soon as you start telling them and they give you all this positive feedback and encouragement, you already get enough dopamine. You don't care about following through with your words.

If I remember correctly, there's even a study on this.

Josue best character arc on ktt2

Nah, we need to stop giving him excessive validation just for posting a thread. I saw him change the title of this thread from "Josue is a changed man" to "Josue is done." Why do you think he did this? He wanted shock value for people to come in here and wonder what the hell this thread is about.

If he's really going to follow through with his words, great for him. If not, this is just a search for quick dopamine from the positive encouragement and praise he thinks we're supposed to give him.

Doing good op! Lowkey gonna miss you being in absolute shambles all of the time, but I hope you can change your life for the better.

Don't give him all this validation just yet. There's a reason why he changed the thread title from "Josue is a changed man" to "Josue is done." He wanted to add some shock value so we'd go into this thread and give him some responses.

People are less likely to actually follow through with their words when they tell people they're about to do something. Why? Because they're already getting positive feedback, thus receiving the dopamine rush they're looking for. They don't have much of a reason to do the hard work and actually change themselves afterwards.

Whenever this happens, I suggest you offer a few words of encouragement, but tell them to actually follow through with it. I've had friends who say stuff all the time, but it's been years and nothing has changed.

Fair enough. Sorry if I misunderstood your intention.

Hope you follow through with your plans, though. Wishing you the best on your journey.

Ever since I read something about this phenomenon, I decided I wasn't going to tell people as much and just do what I thought of doing.

Getting constant praise from people all the time as you go through the journey likely won't help you reach your true potential. At some point, you'll slack off because you feel like you've done enough even when there's tons of room for improvement.
