Yeah but you just made a false equivalency using a real person vs a comic book character.
And I believe there's validity in wanting someone of the same ethnic group to play a fictional person whose character is displaying things you experience on a day to day, as well.
This isn't even an "American" debate. Nigerians were mad Lupita is playing one in the Americanah miniseries. Somalis are critiquing the fact Aja Naomi King is playing Ifrah Ahmed, and I think it's all valid.
As an American myself, I don’t see the issue with black brits playing real life black people because black brits live in the same racist white dominated society African Americans live in. The black experience between the two groups are not exactly the same but it’s also not outrageously different enough to throw a fit at casting news. As long as the actor can nail the accent and embody the person they’re portraying it’s all good.

Everything isn't down to if they also face racism.
There's ethnic differences. All Black Brits aren't even the same. There's riffs between Black Brits of Caribbean origin and Black Brits of continental African origin.

This is where things become ridiculous. Even if you were to cast an African American in a Fred Hampton or MLK biopic that actor wouldn’t have lived or had the same experiences as those men. Maybe they’re not even from the same part of the country or were raised differently. Maybe they should have cast a young reverend in the MLK biopic instead of a AA actor who doesn’t even believe in God. Maybe they should cast a real member of the Black Panther party instead of an AA actor who is a Hollywood corporate w****. Where is the line?
The job of an actor is to study and prepare and do their homework. It’s not a documentary. A film based on a real life person will Always have embellishments from the filmmaker to fill in the blanks.
This nigga Mulder got a problem with all non-American blacks lol.
If we’re playing that game and I had to pick a replacement for Daniel, I would’ve went with Stephan James.

I think it's an interesting topic and think there's validity in peoples critiques.
This was also a topic when Black Americans were taking a lot of jobs in Paris and Black French folks felt a way about it.

Well Stephan is Canadian so lmfao

How is this any different to Americans?

then people would cry about canadians
I think I just like, deeply research and respect ethnic difference and history between Black people more than others.
The movie still looks like a no. There's too much focus on the snitch, and this is made by WB which means TBPP is going to be liberalized. Another tool from the propaganda machine.
that trailer is cut so f***ing well but the fact that it’s WB and the film is more focused on the white FBI informant is just

meh,still s
even worse
How so? I may not fully agree with her, but she's pretty valid in her objections, especially with a topic as heavy as representation in regards to the African diaspora
wish they got someone that actually looks 21 to play him
That’s my only issue, with his casting. the real Fred Hampton was murdered at 21. Daniel looks at least 35 lol.

That’s why it rubs me the wrong way to say it looks ass when the movie itself is bigger than that. F*** her opinion
