To me it never felt that cringeworthy evil tbh. I am not saying he isnt evil ofc like he is evil evil. But knowing he is from 1000 years ago and pretty much allowed to do whatever he wanted? Like I dunno look at Genghis Khan I know weird comparison. But you feel me? There is real crazy evil people in the past.
Maybe its my bias towards the series but it this always gave him to me a bit more believable (given that this is a battle shounen manga ofc). Yuji hurt his pride by caging him and thats what really gets him mad. Like we will never really understand what it was like living 1000 years ago and I think theres atleast a bit of that in all of the reincarnated sorcerers.

DonJuanCherryTempoSee above, also I don’t think this viewpoint takes into account the story telling constraints and stylings of a series that’s produced weekly. And again I don’t think the series is perfect but I just don’t agree that the story needed any other kind of ending, it’s just commonplace to nitpick towards the end. We also have 3 whole chapters left and while I’m not expecting drastic changes there’s still room to wrap things up in a clearer thematic sense
Truthfully I didn’t mind at the time because I thought this was going to go on for a while. It’s definitely something I’m saying in hindsight. It’s impossible now to explore everything so it’s a moot point
