Mei mei is still so weird to me like I think gege wants to show a glimpse of the jujutsu world with her. She has so many very negative points like being extremely greedy, obviously the incest and also not really giving a f about humans and the world basically. Also her technique is kinda messed up.

But then he always portrays her so f***ing cool too

So its impossible to tell wether gege actually criticizes her bad points or thinks they are just cool traits about her

Semi-related, but the way Gege writes female characters, in general, isn't as good/progressive as some people make it seem. Maki is the exception, not the rule. Nobara is wasted; Yuki is *completely* wasted (so much potential); Mei Mei is an unlikable degenerate; Utahime is barely a character; same with Shoko (also very original to make her a healer); and Miwa, at this point, only exists as a comedic prop.

I see your point but Im not sure I entirely agree. Isnt gege treating the female characters like the male characters a good thing?

All the villains are male is this now a criticism of how gege portrays men as evil?

He does give more love and screentime to the men I agree with you on that.

I'm just saying that in general, his female characters aren't AS well-written as some people claim (tbf, most of those claims probably came from anime-only fans and their appreciation of Nobara and Maki).

But the manga does a terrible diservice to most of them.

I like all of the female characters because he doesn’t over sexualize them and actually makes them strong or useful. None of them need to be saved but actually do the saving. Only Shoko is a healer and that’s not necessary a bad thing. She is just not a combatant but rct is high level. Also, Yuki dying has nothing to do with her portrayal as a female.

Only female character that’s questionable is mei mei but like Kenig said, Gege made her likable in other ways.

Female characters for sure took a nosedive starting with Shibuya

The manga right now is just a massive sausage fest. Nobara is dead, Yuki is the only special grade sorcerer that isn’t relevant at the moment and never had any major relevance to begin with, all of the women from Kyoto are useless, none of the culling games women have done much, even Maki now only exists to be a reproduction of Toji

The whole women characters thing is 100% from anime onlies who geeked at there not being much fanservice in season 1 plus the episode with nobara going full girlboss.

I wasn't talking about the characters themselves, but rather how easily Gege discards most of them. I also found it refreshing how non-sexualized his female characters were. That is, until he introduced Uro and Yorozu.

Btw you should def spoiler tag your post

Facts. Also, the Kyoto girls had a total of zero actual fights where they could shine (not talking about training). Whereas the male characters all had their moments (todo, mechamaru, kamo).
