That is, for sure, a wild take. Togashi's characters are far more interesting, imo. How is, for example, Killua's development slow? It's very well fleshed out and beautifully done. Gon is a very interesting character too. Gon's "big moment" with Pitou only worked because of the previously established groundwork in regards to his characterization. It's far from superficial, and quite tragic. JJK villains also can't hold a candle to HxH villains.

Gege is Togashi's son, in a lot of way - some more obvious than others.

Edit: I still love JJK tho. The battles are very exciting, but as far as themes, HxH is much more poignant imo.

Ima be real here I watched hxh a thousand times and its been my #1 for a long time but Gons development never fazed me the way yuji or Maki or even Naboras character did

Also Meruem and Sukuna comparison makes little sense since meruems story is completed and a had a redemption arc. Even then I think Sukuna already shows tons of complexity if youre willing to look for it.

Kashimo such a f\*\*\*ing bum lol, idk why Gege be wasting so much time on these irrelevant characters if they just gonna go out not achieving anything.

That’s my issue with HxH the most. I don’t like Gon whatsoever and I can’t believe Togashi went from Yusuke, a top 5 shonen protagonist imo, to Gon. I like HxH in general though and think the other main characters like Killua and Kurapika are dope as hell.

Personally I think yuyu hakusho is his best work, and the main cast is in my top 3 main casts in anime. They are all so likable, and the story and villains were raw af. If anyone like JJK I suggest watching Yuyu Hakusho for the similar grittiness with charm. It’s not as deep as JJK or HxH though

Kashimo was doomed from the start and we all knew this was coming. The surprise pikachu face people are putting on makes little sense. And this is one side character who was just meant to battle Sukuna and get him to transform. What other “irrelevant” characters are you speaking of because that’s one character lol

Yorozu is one especially given that we never got any closure between Tsumiki and Megumi. Another one is sumo and sword dude from the Maki portion of cg. I feel like a lot of characters just appear and disappear without having an impact storywise. The fights are still hype but they just feel less impactful whenever Gege does this.

Oh well those two guys are definitely going to be fodder for Kenjaku to kill. It was a culling game so had to make it lively and not every contestant needs relevance. Though I don’t care for their inclusion, but I think I see where Gege is going to do when Kenjaku comes back and starts killing off culling game people. Also Yorozu led to some Heian lore, the gift, and to the whole theme of strength and loneliness which Sukuna just denounced but it’s making connections to Gojo and Kashimo. But I did wish the fight between Yorozu and Sukuna had the sibling dynamic some, but Megumi was suppressed and Tsumiki was basically dead so it makes sense. To me people need to give certain things time. These damn erratic reactions after 19 pages asking for payoff every week just seems like collective stupidity for most the fandom

I feel that, most reactions to every chapter are over exaggerated asf. Like I got my issues at times but a lot of fans think its the worst s*** ever and then the official translations come out and then they be saying its better.

I literally feel the malicious criticism is so toxic in anime because like you said, there are things I don’t like all the way too, but the non-genuine takes actually take away from real story breakdowns and real evolving constructive criticism as readers that can be had while enjoying the story. Like if it wasn’t all “oh my goodness he fumbled the story, this s*** is bad and dropped off” but instead listing the pros and cons to an arc like say the Maki/Naoya CG, I would like that discussion. It’s either a 0/10 or a 8-10/10 chapter with this fandom, and it’s actually annoying because it’s like damn these men-children will slander and bring the rating down to a good manga because they can’t read or don’t get what they want, and plus they all regurgitate each other’s bs. They are actually stupid af lol

I get it’s controversial because of the space cut, and I understand the preference of wanting to see it happen but it was an intentional abrupt death to show how Gojo’s death happened so fast not realizing his infinity was bypassed and the viewer’s just got his POV. Secondly his character arc ended perfectly and also was a great moment for Sukuna. It was controversial for sure for how Gege executed it, but just read it again with Gojo’s conclusion in mind. It was not ass. Not to say you aren’t allowed to have gripes because such a decision was going to be polarizing, but Gege went for his vision and narratively it works and adds shock

I honestly would have preferred it to the last panel in 235 or in the middle of 236
