Kindred by Octavia Butler
2/5
It's a reread, just finished. The first time around I thought I missed something. Legit don't get the hype. Some bad dialogue, unlikeable main characters that aren't compelling either. I like how influential it was but I think that's it
American Psycho - Bret Easton Ellis
5/5.
my mind is spinning and I’ve been trying to read as many a***ysis’s of the book as I can because there is a lot to unpack. this book has so many little details and overarching hints (many I didn’t catch). loved it a lot. made me laugh and physically recoil equally throughout the story.
i give it 5 out of 5 scalps
On this currently… the writing is f***in breathtaking

Its been a minute since I read this but I always pictured The Judge to look like Kane :datass:

so whos the judge is he death or is he the devil
so whos the judge is he death or is he the devil
:mystery:
but he's clearly a force that transcends the natural world, biblical in scale of his being.. I wouldn't put it past him to be the devil or something like that

I know this is known for the violence and writing but how is the story itself?

the narrative is secondary to its philosophical themes and atmosphere but still pretty good. however the middle section of the book can get monotonous
I know this isn’t really the place but does anyone have some uplifting novels for me here. Really need one right about now
The Largesse of the Sea Maiden by Denis Johnson
3.5/5
Collection of short stories by Johnson while he's on his way out. Yes he's dying literally and fictionally so the stories deal with mortality, odd and darkly funny situations, and odd ball characters. I can see fans of Bukowski digging this and even the comedy of Louie CK. This is one of Nick Cave's favorite books too.
