the way the narrator talks about women def sounds dated but also not sure if it purposeful

    Glad you liked it tho

It works with his sense of detachment, though it's understandably dated, but his anxiety of people in general pushes the narrator to despise them/hold them in contempt. That's what makes a part of me think it's purposeful

    Crash by J.G. Ballard

    3.5/5

"Blood, semen, celebrity, and engine coolant" pustule together in J.G. Ballard's cult classic Crash. Insane to believe a novel which came out in 1973 still feels incredibly fresh all these years later. In a way, its the blueprint to some of today's popular transgressive fiction, guys like BEE, Palahniuk, Irvine Welsh, etc are all influenced by Ballard. As for the book itself, I had my eye on it for over a decade and while it still remains potent, it does have its flaws. It can feel repetitive and tedious, the tone of the book is cold and calculated, and Ballard's writing can drift and blur with a dreamlike quality.

Still I would recommended for fans of the authors I mentioned, crazy old geezers like William H Burroughs, and surreal filmmakers like David Lynch and David Cronenberg (no I was not a fan of his film adaptation, the book is better)

This book made me realize we spend way too much time in cars and in cities

Damn this one was amazing. I went into it knowing next to nothing about it & I think that was the best way to go into it. It starts off a little slow while you get oriented in the world of the story, but once every thing starts clicking it's such a good payoff.

    Easy 5/5 for me

ASOIAF is indeed one of the best book series ever, slowly reading it because I'm mad busy with university but I'm enjoying it a lot. Currently on ASOS, it seems it gets better book after book.
Hope he will gift us an ending but I can't blame him for being in difficulty after the massive universe he built, his attention to details and the interwining of every plot must be hell of a work to conceive.

    what's HP?

ashamed to admit I haven't read a book in years

Man enjoy this. SOS Is legit one of the greatest books/reading experiences of my life. I watched the show before I read the series & still loved it!
Harry Potter lol my favorite as a kid so I went back to it while I was in a good reading zone

I thought Socrates assertion that we should love beauty itself and the structure of the arguments and how they lead into eachother made for a tight enjoyable read. Plato has good prose I’m looking forward to the republic.

Just finished this, I thought it was pretty good. The part where he talks about having been bed ridden for 9 months with cholera was particularly intriguing

Far from perfect but you can tell that Wallace was onto something really special. The highs of the book are some of my favorite Wallace pieces and the lows weren’t bad, just not what they could have been had he not taken his life. The subject matter was extremely relevant and very well done for what was completed.

What We Talk About When We Talk About Love by Raymond Carver

recognized as one of the best collection of 20th century American short stories, but these didn't really hit for me. some of them were good but I found most of them pretty non eventful plot wise and without any real redeeming characters or interesting perspectives. might try reading one of his other collections, but this seems to be like a book that was revolutionary at the time but hasn't aged that well

    6.5/10

    The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

long book but I couldn't put this one down and really liked the different sections and settings that the main character interacted with. Tartt is a very talented writer, and while I think this wasn't quite on the same level as The Secret History, it was still engaging and unique. seems like she releases a novel around every 10 years so hopefully we're due for one soon. avoiding the movie for sure

    8.5/10

Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann

very interesting non-fiction book about the little known (to most people) Osage murders in the 1920s. the book was quite entertaining and written like a mystery novel. pretty harrowing how the Osage were slowly killed without much intervention or help from the government. lost a bit of steam in the third part but still a memorable read. can't wait to see what Scorsese does with this

    8/10
