@op thoughts
Everybody knows this
I dig for old 70s records always didn't pay bloodstone no mind like that
And i don't even know how someone else ain't notice it earlier
Great find op
Just because it says "hey ya" doesn't mean its interpolated lol. The music too different
@op going to become a contortionist with that stretch
honestly never understood why they never had him on the track 2 begin with
we were robbed
Pats version was pimps fav song at the time. Can’t remem how outkast got on it
not a sample for sure. dont know what id call it but the cadence and hook's timing is what got me. it kinda reminded me of that j dilla flip with 'clair' into 'players'
It's called an interpolation and it's still sampling. This is a good find bro as someone interested in becoming a producer I'm always curious to see the unknown sources to iconic beats like this one. Thanks for posting even tho it is snitching this is a legendary find
i know lol
jus wanted his particular take on it
I didnt even notice u were save me wtf
Avi changes f*** with my head
We need @Brave to break down the theory here and see if its a true interpolation
LETS SEE
It’s not close enough to be an interpolation exactly but it’s clearly a homage:
Anyone who doesn’t hear it just isn’t listening. Also it’s just the hook refrain of the old song in OP that’s being used for Hey Ya btw (0:47-0:54)
The difference in the two hook phrases is technically equal to this: voca.ro/1eEZl3AvxXKj

Now that we’ve broken down the hook melody of Hey Ya…let’s talk about the verse melody
It's not the song itself in its music and lyrical pairing that's deceptively jovial - the melody
is deceptively jovial as well. Hum that melody of "my baby don't mess around because she loves me so and this I know fasho". There's not much bright and upbeat about that movement. It feels more like a death mass than a nursery rhyme.
As I was thinking, I was reminded of how Kurt Cobain moves the melody for the verses in Smells Like Teen Spirit. Something slightly hopeful yet mostly melancholic. Then I wondered
Actually… why does that Hey Ya melody feel like Smells Like Teen Spirit?

bloodstone is one of the greatest groups of all time. they were one of the only bands to be signed to Isley bros label - T-Neck 😎
Bloodstone made “Natural High”. They’re goated off that beautiful ass song alone.
Ps I do hear somewhat an interpolation. But it doesn’t bother me. I feel like “Hey Ya” utilizes it in a different way.
“Hey Ya” is an amazingly clever genius cynical song. A lot of meta commentary within it about what the song actually became in pop culture. S*** is 4D chess.
I mean I’ll put it this way, it’s not like you needed to remind me what hey ya sounded like before I listened to the other one for me to be able to tell what similarity you were alleging
thats why it caught me!

Hey Ya is straight one of the greatest songs ever made across multiple categories: pop music, hip hop, crossover-wise, melody-wise, hook, all that
Well dang! I still don't hear too strong of a resemblance but that's crazy, OP really uncovered a secret here
