I didn't say not to show up, but you can just not cooperate.
Report gets filed --> no charges recommended --> suspect goes free
if you show up and don't cooperate you're held in contempt of court bruh
how did they catch a thief you didnt even know about
I left my wallet at my school and I assumed I just lost it, turns out it was in the possession of my schools police this whole time lmao
if you show up and don't cooperate you're held in contempt of court bruh
Wait what?
Wait what?
that guy has no clue what hes talking about, if you show up and dont answer questions its considered contempt of court which has its own punishment. just do what i told you before. i respect you for wanting to help that guy but basically every way people are suggesting you to itt will get you in trouble

that is not contempt of court lol. telling law enforcement that you do not believe that you were a victim is not disobedience in the court of law.
in order for a crime to occur, there needs to be a victim. if OP does not feel as if he is a victim, there is no crime. you don't need be an a****** about it and start shouting in the courtroom that he's innocent, but OP can personally ask the DA or the officers that reported it that it's okay and to pass over the case.
The perpetrator is a 29 year old black male how do I get the charges dropped, dont want this king behind bars
Damn

you said to refuse to testify and not cooperate lol. saying you believe you werent a victim when the thief was found with your wallet opens you up to a whole bunch of other s*** that could get you in trouble. just asking at the start if you could not be involved with the case would be fine tho, but probably they'd say no.
@op this is a very similar situation: reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/91ss9x/va_i_would_like_to_the_district_attorney_to_drop
the easiest and most non-obtrusive way is to just call the prosecutor and explain your situation calmly

you're right, I chose my words wrong. that's on me.
op's a great person though. not too many folk would be coolheaded about something like this.

To be fair even tho the guy stole from OP, it’s still sad to put someone behind bars for making a mistake. The man was probably just desperate for food
