"People have been the real low-point though." That suprises me actually since Turkish people are culturally very guest-friendly. The country‘s economic and political system is completely f***ed up rn tho. Their standard of living is going down pretty fast these last few years. People also have a lot of struggle with the millions of uncontrolled refugees there. The election was like 2 months ago and Erdogan has won again (was close to losing tho) - a lot of people could be tense rn.
Ah hell nah most turkish people are straight racists especially to arabs, kurdish and black people

Most Turkish people are racist to black people? Wtf are you even talking about did you ever talk to black people living in Turkey? Did you know that there are Afro-Turks living there since the Ottoman Empire? ofc there is racism like in every other country but in comparison to UK and US this ain't even even a discussion

No matter the country, hospitality is stronger in rural areas where the social norms surrounding guest-host relations have not been worn down

Those issues are obviously very different from individual hospitality to a traveler

Now do Kurds and Syrians
eat at this place, one of my favorite places that are still fairly cheap (along with the restaurants for balik ekmek, prices with the inflation lookin wild tho)
Now do Kurds and Syrians
With guest-friendly I meant tourists tho. Like you said - to compare political/historical issues with traveler/tourist hospitality is a bit imprecise

The one where he talks about how Turkey joining the EU would re-create the Roman Empire correct?

yea

Roman restorationism is towards the end but it’s fantastic all around really
Not quite loved it here as much some other places I've been to. Beautiful and unique sights - the mosques and the cistern. Hagia Sophie was especially stunning. View from Galata tower at evening was beautiful. Dolhambace Palace was decent. Gulhane Park was nice to chill at. Went to a Hammam which was good fun.
Food has largely been solid but you just kinda get sick of the repetitive diet. There are other cuisines dotted around of course but often hard to find or just not very good. But eating so much heavy meat and bread gets a bit much.
People have been the real low-point though. Consistently feel pretty unwelcome and like people are going out of their way to take advantage of you. Expected to a degree of course, and similar at other cities sure, but here it's just been exhaustingly relentless. Especially in terms of the nightlife which has been very underwhelming.
I was there in April. Nightlife was atrocious. Every single girl in the clubs were undercover agents; employees of the club who are only there to trick guys into buying shots. Literally felt like I was in a room full of NPCs.

I have family there lol. You know nothing about this country
Especially racism towards black women there is a real problem. Not even to mention that the GP in Turkey is racist to so many other cultures and people. This country is cooked anyway

I never said it doesn’t exist racism in the country. But there‘s not a highly influential societal/religious or political ideology specifically against people of colour in TR. ESPECIALLY not some s*** like the USA and many countries in Europe where some KKK + Nazi s*** is still going on. Yes, there are definitely some ED colorists in Turkey and cases that should NOT be IGNORED. - If your family feels unsave there because of some of these b******s I apologize.
Theres a general problem going on with the police covering up cases of SA/murder against women - this issue is mostly rooted in Sexism, Conversative "Islamic" values and corruption/"protecting" the image of the police/trying to hide scandals from the population.
Racism against Syrians, Kurds, Armenians - ppl from countries where historical/political issues play a big role, is where really MOST people participate in tho (which is obviously a bad thing).
