Even though it was very formulaic I liked at least 6-7 songs off the last album. And kept me in rotation for a while

yea like the music is always gonna be like fairly solid in whatever area/sub genre it goes in

I just want the direction to be there and the interest from my end is only really gonna come when the direction is like unique

peak 1D was about as big as Biebs imo although yeah as a solo artist Bieber is certainly bigger

That level of just singular cultural impact just doesn’t even feel possible anymore given how everything is so scattered now

This new single was a step in the right direction in the sense that minimal production works really well for him. His voice is angelic and needs to be prominent, not an accessory to a beat like Sorry.

I’m not into the gospel stuff but I like the song aside from Chance

But yea Bieber works very well doing vocal heavy stuff. S*** like where are u now is cool but it’s not his strength imo. He has a really incredibly pure voice and just layering behind electronic chops and synths feels like a waste to some extent

From a fans standpoint it’s nice to hear the evolution lyrically too. He’s matured a lot the last 5 years and his love for Hailey is definitely evident in all his songs now

Understandable. That’s definitely why Journals was such a pleasant surprise. I’ve enjoyed every album of his regardless though.

Journals and purpose felt like the only directionful albums he’s made

Although I don’t think anyone is pushing him in any direction I just think this is the output coming from his brain
