Every thread about this users say it’s too low. I think it’s us who don’t really know lol.

More often than not these artists wouldn’t have seen $200M off the catalog if they kept it in their hands

Don’t artist usually do this when it’s towards the end of their career?

    sorta.

if they really dont give a mcshit about anything, and would rather just get the big paycheck now, theyll do it

they can likely make as much money, if not more, if they hold on to it, but it requires them to actually put work and effort to get that money

the other reason is if perhaps theyre that low on money and just need something now

No. U need to see his catalog as a business. He created a successful business and sold it. Just like Hov does with every business. He can now create a new catalog

Nah. I don’t think it really skews one way at all. It’s more often than not veterans of the industry tho which JB fits. He’s been around for 14-15 years now despite still being young. All you need is a valuable catalog

Seems kinda low for the amount of solo hits he had during the 10s!

I would think his would go for real real real high numbers

What's this company that's buying up catalogs up to

The acquisition has been made on behalf of Hipgnosis Songs Capital, a partnership between Hipgnosis Song Management and funds managed by Blackstone.

    .

However, some companies, particularly Hipgnosis, have embraced newer catalogs. According to the Journal, the Bieber deal would be the largest music-rights acquisition for Hipgnosis to date. Earlier this year, the company acquired the song-catalog rights of Justin Timberlake, whose works are a few years older than Bieber’s, in a deal reported to be worth just over $100 million. While Bieber’s share of hits like “Sorry,” “Love Yourself” and even older tracks like “Baby” is said to be relatively small, they are still massive global hits that for many define an era. Conversely, Hipgnosis also acquired the catalog of legendary singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, which includes many classics that are more than 50 years old.

Bruce Springsteen sold for $500M last year and Bob Dylan sold his masters and publishing separately for a nearly similar amount

Lennon/McCarthy is complicated cus it was all wrapped into the deal MJs estate made where they sold the remaining half of Sony ATV to Sony for $750M. This included tons of other artists rights as well such as Eminem for example. This was definitely a meh deal but Jackson’s had serious debts to pay off and needed to secure funds. Maybe alone it’s $500M as well

I think MJs estate has still largely managed to keep MJs catalog.
