  • Interview during Graduation era

"I've been working on this album for maybe a year and a half now," he says. "I'll work on songs for a year. I go back to them, I listen to them more. That way I already know if they're classics and if they'll stick with you. The youngest a song is by the time it comes out might be four or five months and the oldest song might be two years old before it hits the album. So it's had a chance to stand the test of time in my car before I give it to the world."

Not just his car. West tests new songs on his iPod, in the office, in dance clubs and anywhere else people might listen to his music. Then he makes adjustments based on what he hears, repeating the process as many times as necessary.

I doubt Kanye takes rap serious as before

You gotta realize he probably makes pennies of that s*** when he could focus On something else and make millions

You also realize Graduation was meant to be a pop rap album, which he would need to make sure people enjoyed the music in all environments?

Theoretically any artists which the resources and time could do this but it’s clear his new music isn’t trying to have complete mass appeal. Why would he realease a rap gospel album when religion is in the biggest state of decline ever in the world?

I didn’t know JIK had songs that were 2 years old that went through the test of time. Interesting I must of been sleep when that news broke.

I still don’t think MBDTF is a classic

He dropped all those songs on twitter before the album dropped and I thought they were all throwaways

You also realize he did this with CD, LR, MBDTF.....what does “making your songs go through the test of time” have to do with “pop records”

I miss those times when Kanye put rap first and all other s*** behind it. Now rap is just something half assed he does on on the side. If he quits making music, I won’t be upset tbh.

he didnt have that much on his plate before. cant expect him to make classics when he got other priorities now.

we got 7-8 albums of absolute timeless music. thats more than enough. dude will always be one of the greatest artists this century has ever seen
