colincottonThis album may be peak third wave Kanye, thematically of course. It’s got the I f***ed up on tv messaging of ye (and MBDTF). At times the soundscapes are atmospheric and match the highs of TLOP. The album has jarring, break neck transitions and tone shifts like Yeezus. It also incorporates spiritual elements from JIK and the Only One/SHMG era. It’s all there. Even the mandatory phoned in bars. It’s a half complete self portrait that reductively captures the artist perfectly. Minimalistic and abstract. Dreamy and chaotic. Defiant and helpless. Repetitive and underdeveloped. Beautiful and tragic. 5 out of 7.
