I dont romanticize no class of people, but the “revolutionary” energy needs to go owners of natural resource companies actually poisoning the environment and stealing from third world countries
Fell into the trap of the negative connotation of ‘exploit’ ppl have. yes every business person is using leverage and utilizing someone else’s labour or knowledge BUT what i don't believe is that every billionaire “took advantage of (a person, situation, etc) unethically or unjustly”..
My examples:
Zuckerburg, airbnb founders, bill gates, michael jordan, robert smith, and theres many more
yes Zuckerberg, the guy who owns the social media company that help promoted violence that ended up turning into a genocide in Myanmar he’s my personally favourite ethical billionaire 💙🩵
wtf yall talkin about here
Tell me why Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates are "ethical" billionaires.
dont encourage
Im looking at it as they created and leveraged technology that became popular which they then made a large amount of revenue from (advertisisng, software sales..)
But HOW they created that technology (that also exploits not only humans but the environment at large) is what we're talking about here. Where do you think all that material behind all the tech comes the f*** from?
Also Microsoft stole code and bought out they competition, that's how they became a monopoly.
So we can point at "bUt LoOk At wHaT hE'S dOiNg tOdAy" but all I see is a man that knows he's never buying his way into heaven and is doing all he can to compensate for that.
and I got family that made to college off his scholarships, he still is no better.

Big Tech has just as much 3rd world blood on its hands as the oil companies do fam.

so your definition of ethical has literally nothing to do with ethics

Tech is the top of the funnel, the resources and materials were being stolen already, people were alr being killed and forced into slave labour…
so your definition of ethical has literally nothing to do with ethics
So u think if i sell you software you want or allow an advertiser to sell you a product/ service (based on ur likes/dislikes) its unethical
So u think if i sell you software you want or allow an advertiser to sell you a product/ service (based on ur likes/dislikes) its unethical
You are an appallingly stupid person.
Ngl me saying zuck is an ethical billionaire is kinda wild lol but idt he became worth 1bill being unethical
You are an appallingly stupid person.
Ok big tobacco, thanks for ur great points and discussion, i learned a lot. Enjoy your day being the smartest most ethical person on earth
Yea zuck/facebook created the content that brainwashed people to start killing and pillaging folks
his platform boosted that content lmao playing an active role
i think it's reasonable to compare the ways billionaires made their money.
i don't know about all of his investments or businesses, but i think it's fair to assume that Lebron James has profitted more than $1 billion between NBA salary and endorsements.
in other words, his fortune was built off of (extremely highly compensated) individual labor.
i think this is meaningfully different from someone who makes $1 billion owning a business, but i can't completely put my finger on why. i want to say it's about owning the means of production (i.e. are you an owner or an employee). but the CEO issue makes me pause -- CEOs are highly paid employees who I do believe are unethical operators.

I agree
but the algorithm was algortithming as we all know is a thing when we like a couple of women on ig/tiktok and the whole feed changes
He’s been getting $20M+ a year from her, I doubt he cares
No he hasn’t. Having shares in a company doesn’t mean you get money, it just means you have shares. Skims hasn’t gone IPO and they don’t have to bc their funding rounds have been very successful
It’s like Elon’s space X. There’s no need for him to open it up to the public bc he had no issue raising money for it
so all he has is a very small % and he won’t see any money from that unless Kim decides to go public (and he sells his shares) or sell
I agree

no you don’t ur just trying to wiggle ur self out of this
meta knew about this about problem, said so in their own internal documents and did nothing to change their algorithm at all, you can’t abstract ur way out of this by blaming algorithms in general so u can ignore this one
Tech is the top of the funnel, the resources and materials were being stolen already, people were alr being killed and forced into slave labour…
So it's better to instead of maybe....not contribute to that said slave labor just put your hands up being like "welp, this slave labor was already happening before I came in. One more extra hand in the pot won't hurt?" is your version of ethical?
I was on a religious subreddit recently seeing some commenters under a very controversial thread defending the right of a very questionable practice to keep going.
And I say all that to say, I feel like people need to take a long hard look at the things they are defending before they click that post button.
