I'm genuinely curious - I don't agree with bleaching skin either, but why do we look down upon that, and not necessarily other body modifications? Such as body altering surgeries, tattoos etc

    Genuinely curious

Because theirs racial undertones with something like bleaching. A lot of people to it to look more “beautiful” or “handsome” to fit society’s standards, when in reality it doesn’t matter.

Personally for me don’t advocate for surgeries, tattoos etc. but those type of body altering things are common place in society to the point where it’s accepted so no one bats an eye.

Body modification is a form of insecurities if not sheer laziness or poor genetics.

Skin bleaching is a form of insecurities of self hate, oppression, which stems from white washing. Just as in nature when you overwater a plant, the same negative reaction happens when a mind is white washed. Overwatered plants lose their connected to its roots and loss of vigor of the plant. Plants also lose their natural color.

The same happens to a human.

I’d really like to know where do you get most of the information that you post about regarding black people ?

Henry Louis Gates Jr. and the sources he cites. That’s a good starting point.

if skin bleaching stems from white washing, what does skin darkening stem from? (spray tanning, etc)

how can you say fitting into beauty standards doesn't matter?

s***is one of the most important human desires right next to eating. and seeking beauty/attractiveness through body modification has been around from the dawn of time

it’s not about making excuses i just don’t see how dogging on this nigga is productive for anyone, when we can have a more nuanced convo about colorism across the diaspora, because it’s one of several problems that black people face globally.

not tryna make excuses, i just don’t see how trying to make fun of him and calling him a coon on a forum with a lot of yt ppl is cool tbh

Bullying is the only thing that works tbh

From tanned skins being associated with a jet set lifestyle and vacations in warm countries since the ~60s or so.

this is incredibly sad man, i’m so f***ing proud to be black and have the skin color I have that I can’t believe others can think differently.

i get that cultural side of it

but it feels like there's a biological side too. tan people just inherently look healthy to me. that nice golden glow

On the bright side, he's stopped straitening his hair

i’d have no problems with him rocking a perm

bleaching his skin isn’t the way…

if it’s not for comedy then theres really no good reason to post this tbh

I hate all coons with a passion

  • It make me sad when I see/hear about people bleaching their skin. Dark skin is so beautiful.

  • I heard of the story. I was told that he wasn’t really bleaching tho and it was just the lighting in the pictures

It doesn’t really, because people are attracted to different things in other people such as height, weight, hair, eye color, personality etc.

You can look at different civilizations (past or present) and see how their standards of beauty differ from ours or our ancestors.

If we’re being real, Societal beauty standards are really just opinions from the media onto the general public.
