It wasnt planned as part of the main package & with Hotline Bling already being out since "forever" it came attached with way boosted listens that auto boosted Views itself by a lot. What Hotline absorbed auto added to the Views overal fw sales, even tho its months months of seperate work.
If it debut directly on Views i would agree, like almost every other bonus track.

Its not the exact same thing but similar idea, add a song that wasnt originally planned for the album that is already doing well to boost numbers. Just that Kendrick didnt it do it his first week.
Hotline Bling & even more egregiously with TLOP kinda kicked that whole thing off such as Migos, Future etc. to today.
All these articles are misinformed. Views did 852k pure sales first week (album sales) and 275M US streams via Apple Music (streams of the entire) album. Acting like it did 1M first week because of Hotline Bling is very stupid and untrue. How many times will this be explained? That's like saying Harry Styles is only doing 500k because of As It Was being part of his album when 300K of that 500k is from pure sales and the rest is from streams the album is pulling this week.
