Artistically he accomplished more than they did with less albums and he's still pulling off numbers and his older catalogue is still high on the charts, he can allow himself to take long breaks and come back and drop the music that he wants

Compare Kendrick's first 4 albums to Cole and Drake's 4 albums and you'll see what I'm talking about

Hard to compare the two. Drake doesn’t really go into an album making process with a singular theme or concept at mind.

its more of a mix of his usual tracks, but with the added flavor of whatever stage of life or mood he’s in plus any recent major events

And I think how people approach rating “artistry” lends itself more to Kendrick’s approach

Drake doesn’t make concept albums because he can’t. He has admitted this. Drake can only rap from a first-person point of view.

alright fam biggest first week this year and he a failing artist lmfao

    I don't care bout sales.
Sales don't equal quality to me.

And what Kendrick sold isn't a flop at all. Especially this era.
I think what he sold is great.

But I'ma explain it this way so you can see why it's kinda alarming that he only sold that much.

Kendrick took a 5 yr hiatus.
And couldn't even sell more than Kanye (who put out Donda on a Sunday.)
    That alone should be enough.

But if it's not continue reading I guess.

Ye has gone through so many cancelable phases in his career and he still here.

Meanwhile we have Kendrick high up here as the savior of rap.
    Albums carefully crafted.
Everyone besides Drake stans put him as their Goat.
He's been considered the #1 In the Big 3 talk.
    Giving him Passes like
"Kendrick makes art not music" type s***.
Who had just done 600k with Damn I think.

Heart PT 5 did big f***ing numbers.
Like some of the world paused their s*** just for that.

And he did less than ye?

    Almost similar to Cole?

    Hmm

    Something is off.

Also I don't care. Album was a great experience either way

I dont think that’s necessarily a bad thing. He came up under the tutelage of wayne and was a Lupe Stan. Singular thematic albums were never in the cards for him.

He’s always been about making catchy music but also having bars.

Two different artists that are the masters of their craft

Nah I saw other musicians talking about his sales on Twitter, and big tweets saying he wasn’t even top 5 anymore and getting more likes than 2nd week sales

    Ofc. Drake just can't.
On the other hand Kendrick CAN make countless hits, he just doesn't want to.
