Both releases were f***ing butchered too if i remember right.

Wasn't TLOP tidal exclusive for a while and Views streamed only on apple music only first week?

not to mention that the music scene was completely different back in the days, a few artists/group were constantly dominating cuz it was almost impossible to enter the market. Nowadays u dont need labels to become big, streaming changed it completely

You realize that these numbers reflect cumulative charting with multiple entries right? They are still charting and have been charting through every single era of music since the 1960s. The sales in their original era make up a tiny fraction of these total weeks.

Views was an Apple Music exclusive for it's first two weeks.

Kendrick didn't have a full week either. Woulda cracked top 10 I think if he did.

But Right On been leaked for like 6 months, and he dropped 2 songs which end up splitting the streams (people can only listen one song at once), which is a factor

Crazy with that he still broke 1m fw.

But they are positioned there now due to how well they performed sales wise back in the days.
Same reason why Drake will beat those records and be remembered 200 years from now.

Oh didn't know it wasn't a full tracking week.

But yea feels like Kendrick's comeback wasn't as big of an event as we thought it would be. It's a good album but wasn't worth the 5 year wait and not in the same league as his previous albums.

    Artists/fans always cared about sales

Artists, industry heads and music media always cared. And some hardcore fans. But dawg, it was never like this back then. Ever.

Because there was no social media and fans didn't have as much access to raw data like they do now. Back then, there were Spotify, YouTube daily figures, there was no Apple Music, there was no Chart Data constantly posting stats and charts, etc.

Never understood where I could really take it

Heart P5 is just a promo single, not on the album. And even still, with an incomplete tracking week went top 15.

I think its hard to live up to the insane hype it had. I think it was a solid album. Theres a few songs I know i will keep in my rotation.

i dont think the numbers are a flop. Dont think they are amazing either.

In order to beat those records, Drake will have to drop at least 4 more albums with longevity, because the Beatles are still charting and will keep charting. Only more simultaneous entries can beat them. I guess we’ll see.

Biggest Streaming Weeks on the Billboard 200 (Debuts)

Somehow I'm the greatest in the game, to my own amazement
The greatest in the world, there's no debatin'

  • May 15, 2022

I actually don't think Kendrick's 46% second day drop on Spotify is that bad. Cole and Drake both had 43% drops second day. The higher your first day streams are the bigger the % drop is going to be for day 2

Now what's actually bad is if he's performing poorly over on AM where Cole and Drake both do better than Spotify

Exactly, that’s what I said earlier. There was kind of a peace with lack of knowledge in a way. Now you see the numbers and see how the artists react to flop narratives if they form. It’s sometimes interesting but not necessarily “better”

It would‘ve sold so much fw with a normal release… he had the biggest hype at that time

They spend their entire time on the internet s***ting on Drake and everything he's achieved. Every song is wack. Every album is the worst thing ever. He has done nothing in the game. It just goes on and on and they do that expecting people who are Drake fans to never say anything to defend Drake. Or even worse, you'll come on here and see idiots mad that Drake fans praise his commercial achievements like if you're a fan of someone (whether an entertainer or athlete) and they consistently dominate and see success in their field, you're wrong for recognizing that and acknowledging it.

And to make matters worse, they all listen to Drake just as much, if not more than the people they'll tell you are their faves but for some reason there's this weird thing people do where they NEVER want to give Drake his credit for anything. I see the things some people say about Drake online and you'd swear he was some D-list rapper that blew up 3 years ago.

That's why the "I don't hate Drake, I hate his fans" talk is complete bullshit. Y'all have a weird relationship with Drake where y'all listen to his music but never want to give him his just due and you get mad at his fans for trying to correct that. That's all it is at the end of the day.
