I don't think his next album does 600k. I think 400-500k is more realistic. It's just interesting how people said the same thing when DLDT dropped and did 223k. They made themselves believe he had dropped to that level just for CLB to drop the following year and do almost 3x more. They're doing the exact same thing with HN now.

    @JGOGang

See, even she saying it and you know it’s hurting her soul to say it.

Saying what? I just said the same thing as far as what he’ll likely do.

My point is not that he won’t see a decline in sales

My point is that using HN for that is silly, given what the rap album did less than a year ago.

    That’s all.

using a surprise dance album to project how a rapper’s next album will do simply doesn’t make sense to me

Vinyls have replaced all of it. They’re becoming the major hipster item.

A big reason Harry sold so high was that he finished the album and then waited a couple of months for the vinyls to be ready for release day.

It’s also why the album leaked in full like a month out.

Look at the bump Tyler got when his vinyls dropped. They’re the new bundle.

true but this only works for popstar and alternative type artsts.taylor, tyler or the kendricks, ironically drake has more of a street rapper type consumer base than a core fanbase that most popstars or alternative artists have.

I think you think I think he’s gonna decline because of the genre of the music.

    I’m not.

I think he’ll decline because his last album alienated his fan base which is always a big red flag on a artist sliding.

Could have been a regular rap album that did that as well.

It’s just the disingenuous of it all

    CLB had an actual rollout

Scorpion had an actual rollout. Lead singles, the whole 9

Like, we know what his signature album series looks like.

Why would I use Dark Lane, or HN as an honest evaluation of his place in the market? I thought folks were trolling at first but I guess.

It's all rooted in bitterness and anger, which is funny because numbers discussions are fun and harmless. They're upset Drake fans keep bragging about his success like there are any fans/stans of artists seeing success who don't do the same.

You'd at least think that after the trolling, you'd be able to have reasonable discussions with some of them, but nope. Watch them turn to faux Drake stans when his next rap album drops and does well. It'll change to "we always knew Drake would do numbers" "we know he's the biggest rapper" etc. They'll act like they weren't the same ones talking all the s*** they're talking now.

That’s because those artists usually have more of a rabid fanbase. BTS fans made sure that last album of theirs had a big number and like 60-70% of it was physical units which is f***ing insane in this day and age.

Drake def had a pop fanbase tho. I just think they’re not so hot for him that they’ll go out of their way to buy a physical then other fanbases. So he’s more known then any artist but he has less of a core devotee core then say a BTS, Harry, Taylor or Tyler.

Rappers have side projects all the time. Again, CLB came out 9 months ago. Jimmy cooks went like, #1, why do you think he’s alienating his base?

    Based off what?

    Wasn’t a side project tho.

A side project is a guy like Damon Albarn having one IP in Blur and then creating a new one in Gorillaz for his different genre projects.

Brent Faiyaz did it with Sonder.

Calvin Harris did it with Love Regenerator.

Drake didn’t. His s*** was an fully fledged album under the Drake IP.

You don’t think Honestly Nevermind was a side project?

Like it had the same rollout as CLB, that came out 8 months before it?

    Same thing, huh?

    Yep I think we’re done here ✌🏾✌🏾

Based off the record breaking drop off the album had past the initial first week listens (which were also disappointing).

    It’s a bunch of things.

Probably mainly that his fanbase is more male and they’re less likely to support to the level that majority female fanbases do.

Go look at Twitter, k-pop fan groups roam around that site like a gang from Mad Max trying to get attention and trends for them.

Never see that happening for Drake tho and that’s because grown men less likely to feel the need to do that.

My nigga, this may be a foreign concept to you but…rappers have side projects / studio albums all the time.

If you’re saying CLB, Scorpion, Views, etc is the same as Honestly, then you got. Drake should retire because he went from 650k to 200k in less than a year. The next album surely will be like 85k or something

They forget all the times before HN dropped that there would be threads about completely unrelated artists and Drake stand would raid them and post them “who cares, they flopped, Drake outsold” posts.

They’re only upset about it now because the tables have turned.

Because an album is a different genre makes it a side project? That’s literally all you’re saying. His numbers for a rap album will be better, but to act like this isn’t an album because it fits some narrative is cringe.

Never said anything even remotely related to that.

I just said that I fully expect him to be on a downward slope after the past few albums and you’re acting like I think he’s gonna be homeless in a couple of years.

I think you’re too emotionally involved with his success and that you should know about the dangers of paradoxical relationships before it’s too late.

Brother I DIDNT SAY THIS WASNT AN ALBUM LOL

I simply don’t look at Dark Lane Demo Tapes, More Life, Honestly Nvm as with his other albums.

    If you do, fine
