A lot of narrative pushing around Drake just because niggas are mad at his success and the fact that he has fans who never fail to acknowledge it. Really pathetic when you think about it.

Yeah, its been like that forever.
I dont give af about sales. But seeing niggas suddenly care about sales when they can use it to discredit Drake is so funny

Not everyone has a gradual decline tho.

We’ll see but even Adele’s numbers took a hit this time and Beyoncé has def underperformed so it seems to be an industry wise thing.

yeah true mj sale decline was steep but thats the promblem of having extremly huge albums. like adeles 25 . taylor never had such a big album but her sales have been consistent

  • BrickellBayside

    Huh

you said “you got it” n left it at that

    Who knows

I just don’t see the logic in using HN as the predictor of his future commercial success over his rap series that literally just dropped

I really don’t want to call that hater s*** but idk…I would never use I am not a human being’s sales to predict the next Carter album

It's hater s***, period. Artists' numbers will keep dropping because pure sales is dead and gone and streaming growth in the US has peaked. Streaming is only seeing growth in international markets now so the biggest artists in the US will keep seeing their numbers drop. It doesn't necessarily mean they're "falling off", it's simply the state of the music business in these times.

If we're being real, the artists putting up the biggest numbers should be the newer artists because they're more fresh/exciting. We shouldn't keep expecting 10/20 years veterans to still be the ones outdoing everyone.

Every other day it's "sales don't matter!!!!!" until they have a chance to use numbers to talk down on Drake. It's very interesting.

    BRAVE

I see a music industry decline being discussed here because of the veterans’ numbers decline and man…Idk if the decline in numbers from the veterans is reflective of a decline in the industry as much as they’re veterans who lose that magic touch of hitmaking - just like every mainstream act after they get to veteran status

There are rarely exceptions to this besides a very small few

It does seem that chart rules changing and streaming has made an impact tho.

I don’t think we’ll ever go back to the numbers of 2013 just like tv ratings haven’t gone back to the days of 30 million people watching cable television.

Technology is making it so that we have a million things to pay attention to, be that tv, movies, music, video games. It’s not like 2000 where you had like 5 things to do at home and going out and buying the newest album from your favourite artist was a cultural event.

Taylor was a heavy bundle artist.

Her fans would be out in the millions worldwide to buy the special edition CD with the DVD and limited edition “scarf that Mysterio stole from me” replica.

Charts banning bundles gonna effect her for sure.

And to be fair, I’m not saying Drake is above a decline. I don’t think it’d be all that shocking if he came in at around 500k next album or something

But I’m simply saying to let that happen, because honestly nevermind doesn’t project that, not when the rap album did what it did less than a year ago.

She led a one woman campaign against that album’s sales and now that Drake flopped she’s about the art.

I made this thread originally because I felt people were setting Kendrick up with expectations of him doing 600k-1M with MMBS. Go through the first few pages of this thread and you'll see me saying that he won't be doing more than 400k because of the state of the music business right now and people were calling me a mindless Drake stan and a Kendrick hater simply because I was being realistic. In those same pages, you'll find people who were saying that he'd do over 700k with MMBS. There were several viral tweets saying the same thing.

I don't think his next album does 600k. I think 400-500k is more realistic. It's just interesting how people said the same thing when DLDT dropped and did 223k. They made themselves believe he had dropped to that level just for CLB to drop the following year and do almost 3x more. They're doing the exact same thing with HN now.

Vinyls have replaced all of it. They’re becoming the major hipster item.

A big reason Harry sold so high was that he finished the album and then waited a couple of months for the vinyls to be ready for release day.

It’s also why the album leaked in full like a month out.

Look at the bump Tyler got when his vinyls dropped. They’re the new bundle.

    Grad did 957k first week

    808s did 450k

    TF did 496k

ye has never done more than 400k since

It’s just the disingenuous of it all

    CLB had an actual rollout

Scorpion had an actual rollout. Lead singles, the whole 9

Like, we know what his signature album series looks like.

Why would I use Dark Lane, or HN as an honest evaluation of his place in the market? I thought folks were trolling at first but I guess.
