It was actually the opposite, she made the thread to lower the expectations people had. Some people were saying Kendrick would do 1M first week, others (me included) said 500K. OP knew that he wouldn't reach those figures, so she made a thread in order to protect him from the flop calls. If she could convince people that he would do around 300K, as she predicted, then no one would say it's a flop.
Anyone can go to the first few pages of this thread and see that I didn't make the thread to mock Kendrick in ANY WAY. It was actually made to do the opposite: to save Kendrick from being mocked when the numbers dropped and he didn't meet those unrealistic expectations but of course, they're still peddling their bullshit narratives.
Not surprised most of the posts itt are about Drake.
Drake sells well
“Sales dont matter” - niggas
Someone else sells better than Drake
“Sales matter” - those same niggas
this is definitely something entirely made up
most of the drake posts itt are reactionary because drake sxn invades every single artist thread that has semi-notable sales out of insecurity
there would be no issue here if sales weren't being used here to conflate with quality
but i guess niggas like to argue, so be it
Drake
Weeknd
Yonce
Kendrick
Post Malone
Bad Bunny
All dropped this year and don’t look like any did 300k the very 1st week
Like bro sales arguments are stupid in 2022

The thing is even when people itt say, ok sales = quality, there’s gotta be some cope about the last drake album (which I liked).

Like what are y’all even arguing about lmao
People still have to listen to the songs
ok but there's clear inflation when there are 5 part 2s tacked on at the end
Like what are y’all even arguing about lmao
it's just agenda posting dawg
half of the posts itt can be distilled down to "well this album i liked sold more because it's actually good, your fav flopped because his album was bad and no one's coming back to it"
and mind you, the parameters of what constitutes a flop at this point has been retconned so many times that the word has essentially lost all meaning
Will Curtain Call 2 have the highest fw sales of the year? The bar is super low and that s*** has 34 songs. Going to be interesting.
This can’t be right. There only 7 billion people on the planet.

Flop means utter failure
No album that selling 5+ figures is a utter failure

You really think people are buying this?

Yeah Em’s core fanbase is insane, I would bet this sells some crazy unexpected amount
ok but there's clear inflation when there are 5 part 2s tacked on at the end
Not really. The longer the tracklist goes on the less people listen to the tracks at the end. Look how the deluxe did nothing for the album. It sold 310k in 4 days because Ye is a superstar and the 2nd biggest rapper

CLB did 613k less than a year ago...
ok but there's clear inflation when there are 5 part 2s tacked on at the end
There's definitely a maximum length for an album where after a certain number of tracks it doesn't even help.
CLB and Scorpion did about the same number of streams first week.

Donda had 30 songs and only did around 300k and I would say Ye has more dedicated fans. These are old songs but hits so it will have more longevity like The Highlights

Dondar 2 skete player numbers through the roof

Yet they still put out a 1 hour 49 min album to try to maximize

Fr people need to understand this.
Think we’ve reached a tipping point with the minimal notice prior to albums dropping and it’s part of why artists are plateauing from a sales perspective
Artists are not too good to engage in a traditional rollout with singles, videos, etc
In an era where music is as disposable as ever, artists really should think about getting on the circuit again.
