Album has less streams on day 8 than on day 1 , no way, it’s almost like this hasn’t happened for every album ever released on streaming

Also they always talk about how late November/December are run by Christmas music and now they’re acting like it’s such a shock that the album dropped in streams exactly around that time
It's declined in every update since Tuesday.
Almost like…. every album ever?!?
fatd had 11 more tracks btw
Statistics don’t show that
He’s damn near doubling drake’s stream per song rate
If there were more songs on the album with the commercial caliber of Luther or tv off then not only would the total album streams increase to keep up, but streams per song would increase too

Wow.
GNX song streaming more than Members Only
Drake x PND album soon I guess

Me when I don't understand how anything works
Tell me what an album is.
Then ask yourself what words in this definition don’t apply to mixtapes.
A mixtape is a mixtape. An album is an album.
T-t-the real a-a-album is coming soon
I'm so glad this GNX album finally made them stop coping about Mr. Morale and admit that it was mid/a commercial disappointment lmao. See how easy that was?

Mr morale > GNX.
Amazing album
It's a zero-sum game though. You mentioned the algorithmic features like Discover Weekly and Autoplay. If those features decide to queue up one song it comes at expense of every other song. And since songs from GNX are all likely to be categorized very similarly by the algorithms, additional tracks being pushed by those features means the existing GNX tracks being promoted less.
Streaming algorithms don’t operate in a strictly zero-sum way. When one song from an album performs well, it often boosts the visibility of other tracks from the same album
For example, if a song from GNX gets added to someone’s Discover Weekly and they like it, it increases the likelihood that they’ll explore the rest of the album or see other tracks appear in their algorithmic recommendations

you’re proving my point ironically

But again, it just comes at the expense of songs that are already on the album. Unless the algorithm is going to push the same person 13+ different songs from a single album (has never been my experience), the extra tracks don't necessarily increase the amount that songs from the album are being pushed.
I also don't agree that more songs would mean increased chances of someone discovering the album that would have otherwise been unaware. Anyone in the US that listens to rap enough to get Kendrick Lamar songs recommended to them is going to be aware of the album.
Basically my entire argument hinges on my belief that listening habits are largely inelastic. Joe Schmoe has a 45 minutes commute where he listens to Spotify. A new Kendrick album releases so today he's listening to that. Yesterday it may have been a podcast. But the 45 minutes is 45 minutes. It's the same amount of time yesterday, today, and tomorrow. The length of an album doesn't change how long he's listening to Spotify. And I believe that that type of consumption makes up the vast majority of time spent listening to Spotify.

The mixtape more or less died with the streaming era on the large scale. A mixtape pre-streaming was a collection of tracks that were available for free, didn’t have to clear samples, and had no real standard expectations (by the public) when it came to mixing, mastering, cohesiveness, etc. It was more or less to generate hype or buzz for an artist without being commercialized.
So, if a project is commercially marketed like an album and sold (which is the case with everything initially released on streaming) it’s not a “mixtape”, it’s an album.
Drake stans have been struggling with the definition of mixtape since Drake dropped IYRTITL. At the time, Drake owed Cash Money one more “commercial project” before he could get out of his deal, which Cash Money expected to be Views at the time.
Drake saw what they were doing to Wayne (and may have experienced himself) and knew that they would try to hold on to a Views album rollout as long as possible to keep him signed. So he dropped IYRTITL and called it a “mixtape” so that Cash Money wouldn’t block it. He then proceeded to sell IYRTITL exactly like an album, sneakily fulfilling his contractual obligation for “commercial project”, and essentially finessing himself out of his contract.
Years later, I believe it was on the HNVM release OVO radio, Drake said he considers IYRTITL an album.

Fam what. I’m in this thread for every album I’m excited for. Stop making up narratives in your head lol.
I was in this thread posting f***ing twenty one pilots numbers
Maybe it’s cause YOURE only here when Drake and his ops drop 🤭

Even for someone like Joe Schmoe, the extra tracks matter. Over time, a longer album can lead to more ‘sticky’ songs that get saved to playlists or replayed outside of those 45 minutes
That cumulative effect across millions of listeners adds up, even if individual habits don’t change dramatically. So, while habits might feel inelastic, the way music is consumed is often more dynamic
