literally just an example
this guy is a massive star in one specific part of the world while simultaneously being completely irrelevant outside of it
Morgan Wallen's numbers in the US are insane. He will eventually have two diamond albums in a span of 5 years... yet he's completely irrelevant almost everywhere
Morgan Wallen is at #74 in the most streamed artists of all time on Spotify, with 19 billion streams. So, about 69 billion less than Bad Bunny. Hope this helps.
This guy has only been releasing solo music since 2018 and has the third most streams EVER on the world’s NUMBER ONE streaming platform, and niggas are tryna say he’s not as big as we think because he primarily appeals to Spanish-speaking listeners
I dont think people realize how crazy 2022 bad bunny was. He literally changed club scene overnight. Places that never played spanish music started having reggaeton nights.
DJs had signs saying "no more bad bunny requests"
Spanish music was played on radio stations that would never have it.
He did 15M gate at stadiums which at the time was more than anyone but 1 George Straight concert.

do you think Bad Bunny is more popular globally than The Weeknd, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran?

Weeknd no
Bruno no
Bieber yes
Coldplay yes
Ed yes
You’re using “globally” as a dogwhistle though

But that's what this discussion is about

The original conversation was about a single year for a male artist.
It is 100% arguable that Bad Bunny’s 2022 is the biggest single year for a male artist ever.
It’s not an irrefutable statement, but it is one that can definitely be argued

Imo BB is more than Weeknd but less than bieber globally

See when you have global demand...
Dogwhistle
Morgan Wallen having zero global demand outside the Anglosphere is a dogwhistle too?

Bad Bunny is in an entirely different stratosphere of popularity than Morgan Wallen is.
88 billion streams vs. 19 billion streams.
You’re just discounting Bad Bunny’s 88 billion because he sings in Spanish (the fourth most spoken language on the planet btw)
these are the 10 biggest music markets in the world

Which ones do you think Bad Bunny is well known and his songs are popular?
Since streaming seems to be the main focus of this conversation, Mexico is Spotifys 2nd biggest market.
Posters itt must not travel much if they think Bunny isn't popular outside of the US/Latin America. Bro has Europe in a choke hold lol
There is a difference between an American or British pop artist blowing up and a Puerto Rican reggaeton artist doing it. English pop is music you hear basically everywhere. Restaurants, department stores, taxis, airports, malls etc.. it feels almost corporate. You go to foreign countries and that is the music on the radio. Weeknd, Ed Sheeran etc...
A reggaeton/latin trap artist blowing up like that? Unheard of. Only thing similar was Ricky Martin in the late 90's with Vida Loca and his run of Spanglish smash hits. Or Shakira. But even then, they would singing in English. Hard to underestimate how impressive Bunny's takeover has been, even just in the US.
It’s crazy how he fell off
He went from having basic pop hits with 1B+ views to trying to make hits with UK Drill rappers lol
But his detriment, he was the typical White Guy With A Guitar that wasn’t really interesting outside of the music
He also broke touring records before the touring industry boomed post COVID.
Bros getting all his records broken by other people.
First MBDTF song with 1 billion streams, more to come in the future

yeah people just see it as another artist but he changed the music landscape forever.
Ed, Bruno Mars or even the Weeknd are building on top of older widely popular music in a language that was nothing new. Bad Bunny literally took a different sound and language to pop level.
