On the flip side to defend The Weeknd, this is exactly why Die With a Smile has destroyed Blinding Lights in streams. For some reason people like @fader are ignoring this. Comparing global pop numbers now vs years ago is basically useless

DAMN is on track to outstream any Drake album in about a year. And when you consider Drake has almost 500 songs on Spotify while Kendrick has half that it really puts things into perspective.
They’re basically neck and neck (popularity wise) and that’s with Drake making pop music while Kendrick sticks to rap. I’m also wondering what Drake’s next move will be once he’s no longer the most streamed artist OAT on Spotify. Taylor and Bad Bunny are coming for that spot soon and then he’ll only have the most streamed rapper OAT title left.

All these streaming records are gonna be broken in the next 5 yrs. Streams don’t really mean much. NLU will be diamond by the end of summer and it’s highly likely it’ll be the first rap song to go 2x diamond. Kendrick (like Drake) is gonna have 2 diamond albums. The differences are minimal.
I really hope Spotify starts hiding streams or it just dies out and we go back to focusing on the music itself. Streams have really messed up the whole music industry.
