@fader this is exactly what I was talking about yesterday re streams and quality. Might start a thread on this topic...

    https://twitter.com/nosaputyouon/status/1892334777509790140

This is why I respect artists like Frank Ocean, Rihanna, Kendrick and others who take yrs off. If the art isn’t coming from the right place it’s better to keep it on the shelf and only put out the album when it truly feels right.

Would be a good thread idea

I love Rihanna's music but she ain't not dropping for the love of the "art"

She is making way more money selling clothes and has two young children, she barely made her own music in the first place lol

Tracklist bloating is 100% a result of the streaming era

Her sweatshop got shut down by the FBI, if you wonder why there's no album

    nah

back in the day labels was combining 2 separate submitted albums into one and calling it a double disc to keep artists tied to their contracts longer

Eh. Its always a pointless debate. Artists like Drake top high of the high quality music to his fans while dropping quick and consistently. Music doesn’t have to take 5 years to make. And some of the artists you named careers would have benefited from having more music.

That was much less common than albums being 20+ tracks now just to inflate streams

This is something that actually annoys me. I never bring up the artists I actually listen to because it’s pointless everything’s just about streams and popularity unfortunately.

Kelela is another great example. She could’ve gone mainstream but chose to keep her art authentic. She put out a new album two years ago (nearly 7 years since her last one) and I’d say it’s easily one of the best albums this decade.

This is a big reason why I have so much respect for her and artists who keep what they create real and honest.

I might open a thread if I’m in the mood.

Frank Ocean headlined Coachella off two albums, and that second album was a wildly successful independent release.

Rihanna is one of the highest selling artists of all time and is literally a billionaire.

Kendrick Lamar is widely agreed upon to be one of the Top 5-10 greatest rappers of all time time and he has numerous Diamond songs and albums.

How exactly would any of their careers have benefited from rushing out more music?

I would be fine with a break. His last two releases were his worst albums.

True. But how many of those were ACTUAL double disc albums? I can only name a few. Back then the tracklist length had no effect on how many records were sold, only an album being a legitimate double disc did.

He’s saying that if Rihanna wanted to s*** out another album just for the f*** of it, she could’ve done so at any point in the past 8 years. She’s clearly taking her time and being more intentional with his next release

I'm fine with breaks, but when it starts to become very long breaks or essentially going on hiatus just sucks as a fan, at least for me, to know you may not be getting new music in the future
