It’s funny how you just made all that up

Any organization can have things in place to stop theft/fraud but there will ALWAYS be smart enough crooks to still succeed.

Once theft/fraud becomes too much of a disruption is when an organization/company then implements better measures.

Billboard is now implementing a LOT of new measures for webstore sales so what would that tell you was happening prior?..

Billboard doesn’t just change rules based on fake sales. That’s the point you’re missing.

If that was the case, they would’ve cracked down on fake streams years ago.

It’s funny how there are numerous rule changes today and you’re focusing on the ONE that has to do with illegitimate data being reported

They change filtering to indeed stop fake sales lmaooo.

Please explain why they changed rules for digital singles after the BTS nonsense?

Because fake sales were largely being made

That rule change had to do with numerous sales coming from the same person / account. Not fake sales.

Fake sales are when someone/a group repeatedly buys something hundreds of times….

When it comes to these digital D2C sales I believe the same thing was happening.

Labels were paying for someone who had the resources to execute a bunch of repeated buys from their webstore.

They were already caught doing this on iTunes last year. Teddy Swims, a one hit wonder, suddenly had 10 versions of 1 song selling a lot on iTunes when he was close to #1. All the sales were thrown out.

This is not the same thing as botted sales.

One person buying a single 19 times is still a real purchase made 19 times. But it was banned because it is abusive and gimmicky.

  • serenade

crazy that it's only me only sold 6.5k digital sales.

i guess all those lil baby stans were keeping their wallets closed until he gave them what they wanted: a deluxe album with one new song.

They are fake sales, you’re just trying to argue terminology for the sake of it.

If I open an online store then buy my own items until they sell out, they weren’t actually sold out, it was just a fake sales traction. The inventory didn’t move and there was no real profit earned.

Labels using their own money to repeatedly have their music purchased fraudulently and then get all the money back is essentially fake sales.

teddy swims is a great example because he has nothing resembling a stan base. nobody is going out of their way to buy his song multiple times just to get him to #1. that can only be label activity.

I've seen more than a couple Drake stans during the beef saying s*** like "Drake should change the genre" "leave rap" etc..

They don't rap. They just like Drake like real pop fans

What the hell are you talking about?

You just said the digital single rule was placed because of “fake sales”, but they were not. Billboard cracked down on REAL FANS buying the same song numerous times to boost its numbers.

Now you’re saying if you open an online store and buy the items yourself until they sell out, that has nothing to do with the digital single rule

There were still REAL FANS making REAL PURCHASES but Billboard deemed it fraudulent because they were buying the same item in bulk

Fake sales are fans funneling money to buy something 1,000 times.

  • This news about them cracking down on digital deluxes is a shame purely from a fan perspective

like for example Travis and Ye were dropping a lot of unreleased grails and fan wanted songs that didn’t make the album, so in my eyes it was a win-win for everyone

at least it doesn’t kick in for another couple of weeks, so there’s a chance that we get some Carti grails this week

You’re just mad because some artists have more rabid fanbases that will go to these extremes to boost their artist’s sales
