Being "hot" has to translate to s*** that actually matters, like quality of music being released, impact or influence you can quantify. Numbers also factor into that.

Carti just dropped a 30-track dumpster fire that everyone has mostly moved on from already. If that s*** cracks 100k+ in week 2, it'll only be because its a 30-song album. It's not an album that'll generate any longstanding interest or conversation. I don't care for dude's music, but I can at least testify to Whole Lotta Red being an album I saw people in certain spaces keep referencing and having conversations about years after its release. His latest album has none of that. Zero standout tracks, all pure garbage. Dude had Kendrick make not 1, not 2 but 3 appearances on his album that all didn't amount to s*** because the album is just that forgettable lmao. Dude recruited the avengers on his album and it all was a waste of everyone's time.

Doesn't matter that the album was "anticipated." All of that is done now because it ended up being a wack album that people are already deciding isn't worth their time.

The "kids" might f*** with Carti's music, but to truly impact culture, your music has to transcend just degenerate 15 year-old white boys liking your s***. Travis was once in that box till he dropped ASTROWORLD, an album that legitimately cut through and truly established him across multiple demographics in rap. Maybe Carti drops an album that manages to do that one day but as of now, he hasn't done so.

The initial reception for MUSIC has been much more positive across the board than the initial reception for WLR was. It’s also still #1 on Apple Music and projected to get a second week at #1 selling between 120K-140K, so I’m really not sure where you’re coming up with the narrative that people are already moving on.
