Exactly lmao. As I told that guy, Kendrick did sound good on it. Nobody is claiming anything else. But he is far from the most memorable act on the song. It would have been popular without SZA but she took it and made it one of the most popular songs in recent times and - as you said - that's OKAY. It's not a critique of Kendrick.

If Kendrick sang the hook of that song, it wouldn't have done s***. That's the truth. SZA's vocals elevated that song. That's why Kendrick gave it to her to sing. That was also a smart move on his part. He knows what works.

Him having her on GNX on multiple songs, getting her to join him on stage at the Superbowl Halftime Show and having her as a co-headliner on a stadium tour are also smart moves. He knows how massive she is as an artist and he knows it won't be a case of him having to carry her along because she's a star in her own right with her own audience. Them two together are much bigger than Kendrick by himself and that's the simple truth. Takes nothing away from him as a superstar in his own right but when two giants come together, a bigger giant is formed. That's how it goes. I don't even know why this is a debate/argument lmao.

Nobody said Kendrick should have sung the hook on the song, y'all twisting words and fighting ghosts as usual

SZA is 100% the biggest black female singer in the US right now and has been that since at least 2018. Zero debates. Ctrl and SOS are the two bestselling albums by a black female singer in the last 10 years. Y'all gotta stop treating that lady like she's not a big deal lol.

SZA not doing anything with her vocals on All the Stars that could not have been done by another singer like Jhene Aiko, Beyonce etc. Kendrick could have taken his already written song and reference track to another female vocalist and it likely still would have been a hit (remember, Kendrick had just sold 603 000 fw months prior and it was connected to Black Panther)

She sang a chorus that was already written for her according to a reference track that was already recorded for her. So how tf did she carry? That's all I want to know

brother SZA was on ctrl dominating run and about to finish her tour when All the Stars dropped before she ran thru the Grammys (4 wins on her first night lol). they were both having big moments and it was just the perfect recipe/timing for TDE, Dot and SZA

it would not have had the same impact with another singer. it’s a reason it was SZA right at the moment they both were having big moments + Black Panther backing it. it was all to push Championship tour and BP album

At the end of the day, she didn't carry the song. That's like saying Asap Rocky carried F***in Problems when Drake co-produced it, Rocky was given the song with 2Chainz hook already on it and Drake, a far more established artist, had a verse on it

nah now this is false equivalency

we don’t know why any of the moves were made

STOP SPEAKING LIKE YOU ARE IN MEETING ROOMS ALL THE TIME

all we can see is what is shown, All the Stars was just perfect timing, not “Kendrick chose her” lmfao. the b**** was having a massive run and he had a hit in his back pocket for a compilation album…okay bet let’s put our singing talent on it…? it ain’t gotta be deeper than that

conflating that to 6 years later when he hadn’t even had the superbowl or tour secured yet and she been touring SOS and ALSO DIDNT LIKE BEING INVOLVED WHEN THE BEEF WAS HAPPENING (she posted the Nene leaks “why am i being mentioned” meme) is also just another false equivalency

nah i agree with you, i didn’t see the comments you were responding to. they wilding. niggas listen to that song cause it’s a Kendrick song, SZA was still barely a household name who performed greatly, so the revisionism is sick

Kendrick is a star in his own right, no one is debating that but SZA is loved on pop radio. Her songs tend to have massive longevity on radio: see Snooze, Kill Bill and Saturn — songs that spent months in the Hot 100 top 10 partly because of how reluctant radio was to let them go.

SZA is a star too, man. Her first arena tour grossed more than Kendrick's biggest tour yet and she played like 10 fewer shows than Kendrick lol. Her two studio albums have each sold over 6M units. She isn't some small fish. She very much helps Kendrick by being on Luther and is a huge reason why Luther is the biggest song off GNX.

Again, no one is saying Kendrick needs SZA to be successful, but them working together definitely helps him out and overall, is a look that benefits them both. I don't know how anyone can argue that.

Every song she mentioned was released years after 2018

Drakes first real hit in ages and Kendrick blocking it is not something I had on my bingo card for this year. I don’t know if Nokia will keep growing.

SZA carried Kendrick in 2018, even though Kendrick had just sold 603 000 fw his last album in 2017 while SZA sold 60 000 fw her last album the same year. Literally 10x less sales but you're trying to say she carried him like he was some unknown artist

Kendrick wrote the part, recorded it with the cadence and everything. He could've gotten Kilo Kish, Jhene Aiko, any female vocalist to do her part. He didn't need SZA specifically for the song, SZA didn't make the song big. If you're going to hate, at least use some logic while doing it

I get what u mean. not sure why everyone is acting so obtuse

The song really feels like it was crafted to highlight the vocalist. SZA delivered for sure, but honestly, I think even a talented underground singer could’ve made it a hit

Literally said he could've achieved the same result with any other female vocalist. Y'all just salty because your Papi's hook on his current biggest hit was written by his producer

This insanely disrespectful to SZA there’s a reason he had her on the song and not any other female vocalist

Don’t agree that she “carried” but this is crazy
