    is drake a rapper?

Yes. 100%. But Drake spent the first six years of his career putting together projects that were 80% rap music, and even still now his projects are a good 60-70% rap.

I love Doja Cat but let’s label her correctly as the pop singer that she is. A black woman can be a major pop act too.

just because you personally don't like her rapping, doesn't make her a rapper lmao, you can be upset all you want

I’m not upset at all, I love Doja Cat’s music, but she’s just not a rapper.

She’s one of the best pop artists in the game right now, it’s stupid to label her a rapper when she’s clearly not

and doja grinded out her music on SoundCloud and she's rapping on 99.9% of it... like where do you even draw the line? she's rapping on most of Hot Pink and Planet Her too

    so what is she doing?

I feel like you’re not getting what I’m saying here. Does Doja Cat rap sometimes? Yes. Does that make her a rapper? Technically, sure.

But my argument is that she’s not a rapper in the sense that her music and her identity as an artist doesn’t fall within the hip hop genre.

For instance, The Weeknd & Frank Ocean both rap pretty extensively throughout their discographies, but you’ll never hear their names come up in a discussion about rappers, because they’re not rappers, they’re singers.

I consider Doja a rapper. I'm not calling anyone out but I feel like there has to be some misogyny behind calling her a pop artist because she's a woman. I'm a man and I'm not trying to dictate how a female rapper should carry herself. She's doing the same thing Carti and Travis do and no one debates them being rappers

Y’all keep pulling out these low view count pre-Amala one off songs as if that proves she’s a rapper.

Everything from Amala to now has been primarily pop / R&B music

so in order to be considered an "actual" rapper, you have to have "identity" that ties in within the hip hop genre?

that just sounds pretentious to me, if it works for you more power to you then

There’s no misogyny whatsoever. I’ve said plenty times that artists like Meg, Latto, Rico, and Saweetie are all rappers, whereas Doja Cat is not.

Her music sounds nothing like Carti’s and Travis’s.

so, first you say drake is a rapper because he had put out a lot of songs that were rap before he focused on making pop hits, i show you that she has a load of soundcloud songs where she's rapping, and for some reason it doesn't count?

i think you just don't like her music or have something against her, which is fine, but i don't really see what's the point in hiding behind "she's not an actual rapper" shtick

just say you don't like her s*** and move on

Artistic identity. The music Doja Cat makes cannot be overall classified as rap music. You can’t listen to Amala, Hot Pink, and Planet Her and tell me with a straight face those are rap albums

  • It’s funny cause I never associated the term big 3 with sales at all lol it was always skill set for me so maybe y’all some new niggas or were phonies the whole time.

And no, Drake spent the first six years of his career putting out albums worth of rap music. A few SoundCloud songs worth of Doja trying to make a name for herself doesn’t constitute her as a rapper. The majority of her career so far has been pop / R&B.

    Listen to the music

They’re all putting out rap songs and rap albums. Not a single project Doja Cat has released since 2018 can be classified as a rap album

There are genres for a reason. It’s why Ed Sheeran doesn’t get considered a rapper even though he’s rapped on all of his albums.

If Doja Cat is a rapper, then Ed Sheeran is a rapper as well. Do I need to explain why he doesn’t get that label?

a few SoundCloud songs? she has literally hundreds of songs with her rapping i could toss you a zip of her unreleased

i don't see the difference in between drake releasing albums worth of music that classifies him as a rapper versus doja releasing a load of loosies like that doesn't even make sense dude
