Manchild is doing 123 points in its 10th week.

Espresso & Please Please were doing 200+ points in their 10th weeks.

So do you think she lost 50% of her consumers this past year or that streaming consumption has changed entirely for 2025 releases?

New Song is way worse than the other 2

I’ll definitely challenge some of the things I’ve said in regards to this chart issue being 100% cause of the catchiness of these 2025 songs, because such a huge disparity for sure has to come from a “cracking down” of sorts

The thing that makes it hard to pinpoint tho is back to the fact that these 2025 hits are clearly not nearly as catchy as hits in previous years

Like manchild is not as catchy as espresso or please please please and that’s regardless of the chart situation rn

Lose Control, A Bar Song, Ordinary, etc spending 800 weeks in the upper chart it’s really not as simple as “catchiness” when the songs the public won’t let go of aren’t even particularly catchy

What are we even arguing here? Drake makes a bunch of pop songs / pop rap songs. That shouldnt even be an argument? Its a fact and a reason why drake is so popular. His music appeals to the masses

I started this a few hours ago by saying that drakes pop fans probably weren't fussed about the beef, and probably had a bit to do with kendrick outperforming drake numbers wise during the beef, because kendricks fanbase are not split in the same way

  • Aug 15, 2025

There's an interesting 'what if' in the idea that if drake dropped a pop song about kendrick during the beef

Tbh I could see that having a better reception than everything he did drop honestly... kept it simple but harsh, could have been a contender

Lose Control and A Bar Song aren’t extremely catchy? Huh?

I’ve manually clicked play on Lose Control maybe a total of two times in my entire life and I still know exactly what the hook melody is. It’s extremely sticky. I’m not even gonna try to explain A Bar Song to you

The point is, drake has far MORE of a pop crossover than kendrick

But they both have huge fanbases

The point is that those fans who listen to pop drake and bang the melodic back catalogue that you ignore when you talk about the streaming totals every month probably didn't really get involved when drake decided to drop entirely rap focused songs against a RAP focused artist with a similar sized fanbase

So when 100% of kendricks casual and serious fans got behind him, about 30 - 40% of drakes fanbase had no horse in the race

I wouldn’t agree with that for sure.

But that song is 100% only popular because of Giveon’s hook, so Drake’s verses are kind of moot

    They aren’t.

Lose Control is the most faceless song ever and will never be a song anyone thinks of when asked to name the most memorable songs ever.

It is popular for being inoffensive elevator music/waiting room playlist music, not for being uniquely catchy. Those are two different things.

Usher - Yeah, OutKast - Hey Ya, Spice Girls - Wannabe, Carly Rae - Call Me Maybe, In Da Club, etc are examples of huge classics that are known as being universally catchy and “try not to sing along to” type songs.

Nobody is ever putting on Lose Control in a function and everybody of all demographics and generations is screaming out the lyrics lmao.
