the fake cardi hype makes me feel like i don't understand how the music industry works? cuz whats the point of investing all that money into cardi when she's only dropped 2 albums and this last one isn't even selling that well. From Bodak Yellow I always thought she was not good and i never knew what people saw in her. From Ak to Joe budden to breakfast club, every hip hop media have been pushing her up as this great artist. Was this all to take nicki down or is Atlantic somehow getting a return on their investment?

Bro ALLLL of this stems from the industries (roc nation) hated for Nicki. Her and drake are still the clear standard but won’t stand in line and they will try anything to tarnish them

say what you want about cardi, but 200k is a decent first week number considering the circumstances. it's just funny because she clearly wanted to outsell nicki and pulled every gimmick in the book to do so, and still failed.

thug, on the other hand, might struggle to do 50k with his comeback album. that's terrible for him and a bad look for hip-hop considering how desperately it has needed another event album.

the fact that they've invested all that money and cultural capital to take both of them down is insane and shows a shortsightedness that I don't expect from people i consider to be smart. Drake and Nicki are huge because they are talented and one of one. What they offer is unique and can never replicated so their fan base will always stick by them no matter what.

the Cardi b one is even more insane because she's not even that talented so she can never be compared to nicki. you'll have to work really hard to sell that illusion. Kendrick at least can rap but Drake outpaced him a long time so they did it too late. Drake already has a huge discography of classics that even his haters have to keep listening to.

The point is none of this makes sense. If you're gonna go through all that to destroy two icons, at least make sure you're successful. It seems so sloppy

200k first week for cardi in 2025 is not only decent but insane to the point i have hard time believing it

    Theoretically, I'd agree.

But knowing that Cardi had 7 years of anticipation and pulled literally every trick in the playbook to beat Nicki in fw sales yet still couldn't pull it off is an L.

When you resort to damn near playlisting your entire song catalog after your 1st album including having 7 year old loosies in your deluxe, that's not a good sign at all.

Edit: Put it this way. Since Cardi playlisted so much of her older songs, she really has no more tricks to pull off for her 3rd album. Her 3rd album will have no choice but to solely fall back on her current music which has been bricking since 2022. By then, you'll see the smokes and mirrors even more.

her streams and sales wernt bad its more so the fact that Cardi and her teams goal was solely to outsell nicki minaj and break espn records. And not doing that is why she is the butt of the joke.

"bookmark those tweets" "i see ur username your going to be crying when i outsell your fav" welp

bruh US has 50M Spanish speakers and a decent size portion of his fanbase doesnt speak Spanish but listens to his music because it's sonically fire still.

And his fanbase shows up, his last two US tours were bigger than any rap tour of similar size. Resale was crazier. He just announced global tour and he in doing 10 shows in a row in Madrid and sold out 500k+ tickets there in like an hour.

He is going to pull in global audiences.

It's good numbers for somebody who dropped an album and did little promo

It's bad numbers for supposedly queen of rap who waited 8 years and did a 400k kinda rollout

    @provider

This is why people are saying “only” 200K. She pulled out all the stops imaginable PLUS she did in-store album signings every single day of the release week to boost sales, and STILL failed to even match the performance of her debut album. It’s a massive flop on every single level.

Anyone thinking 200K is a good number under these circumstances is severely misinformed

200K is terrible man. It’s exactly why Cardi kept saying “bookmark these tweets” when the initial projections kept coming out and kept reporting 200K every single time. She and her team knows 200K is embarrassing for everything they did to sell this album. If that was a number to be proud about they would’ve been celebrating when those projections came out, not implying that they were incorrect

    Exactly.

If Cardi surprise dropped this and only had one vinyl version & one CD version available, then 200K is a great number.

But for all of the promo she did? All of the variants? All of the extra versions of the album? All of the in-store signings? All of the singles that have been out for years tacked onto to the album? In that scenario, 200K is abysmal
