paid streams are weighted more for billboard
if Billboard is based on revenue that a song brings in, then counting free streams for barely less than paid streams doesn’t make sense
note:
Billboard should be based on listens, not revenue, but since it’s not, at least be consistent
the paid vs free streams really didn't change it much it basically evens out to the 1500 flat that it use to be. only way it hurts is if you are a youtube heavy artist or have a lot of music videos. But youtube should be weighed less imo.

that’s what i’m saying
if they’re gonna go with the “how much revenue it brings in” metric, free streams should count far less than paid streams do

As at 2018:
Beginning with the first week of Nielsen’s third quarter of 2018 (sales and streaming week of June 29 to July 5, which will be reflected on Billboard charts dated July 14), plays on paid subscription-based services (such as Apple Music and Amazon Music) or on the paid subscription tiers of hybrid paid/ad-supported platforms (such as Spotify and SoundCloud) will be given more weight in chart calculations than plays on ad-supported services (such as YouTube) or on the non-paid tiers of hybrid paid/ad-supported services.
The Billboard 200 will now include two tiers of on-demand audio streams. TIER 1: paid subscription audio streams (equating 1,250 streams to 1 album unit) and TIER 2: ad-supported audio streams (equating 3,750 streams to 1 album unit).
At the end of 2019, when video streams began to count for the Billboard 200 chart:
Video and audio data from YouTube, along with visual plays from several music streaming services, will soon be factored into the Billboard 200 albums chart, it was announced on Friday. In addition to YouTube, officially licensed video content plays from Apple, Spotify, Tidal and Vevo will be included in the album chart’s calculations.
The inclusion of video data into the Billboard 200 arrives five years after audio streams were added, marking the chart’s shift from a measure of pure sales to a consumption model. The addition of video will also impact Billboard‘s genre album consumption charts, such as Country, R&B/Hip-Hop, Latin and others.
While YouTube streams have factored into the Billboard Hot 100 and other song-specific charts since February 2013, this marks a first for the album charts. In contrast with song charts, which can be impacted by user-generated videos, only official licensed video content uploaded by or on behalf of rights holders will be counted for the Billboard 200 and other albums charts.
The changes take effect with the charts dated Jan. 18, 2020, which will reflect sales and streams for the period of Jan. 3-9. _
“As the steward of the definitive charts that uphold the industry’s measurement of music consumption, our goal is to continually respond and accurately reflect the changing landscape of the music,” said Billboard-The Hollywood Reporter Media Group president Deanna Brown. “Our decision to add YouTube and other video streaming data to our album charts reflects the continuing evolution of the music consumption market and the ways in which consumers connect to album-related content.”Lyor Cohen, global head of music at YouTube, called the changes a “very important moment in making the chart a more accurate representation of what people are listening to.”
He added, “Genres like Latin, hip-hop and electronic, which consistently dominate the YouTube charts, will now be properly recognized for their popularity. This is another great step in bringing YouTube and the industry together and we’re so grateful to Billboard and the music business at large for making this addition.”

Yeah, Spotify has always published their numbers but no other audio streaming service has so they've always been alone in that.
I'll say that for Apple Music, their charts are rolling charts so numbers technically can't be published. Their charts update dozens of times a day in comparison to Spotify's charts which updates only once a day.
How much you thinking he gonna sell

There's gonna be a lot of people spinning those numbers to say the album is too dense or intellectual for the mainstream audience to comprehend. Just watch.

This was always going to be the case. There's a dozen excuses lined up for Kendrick in the case that the album underperforms in any way.
Drake did the exact same thing for CLB. Future had no rollout. Bad Bunny had no rollout. That's no excuse, especially for a rapper people hail as one of the biggest commercially.

My point is that Bad Bunny and Future both did the biggest first week numbers of their respective careers without a rollout. Kendrick should have no problem doing numbers without a rollout as well, seeing as he's hailed as the second-biggest rapper in the world and Future/Bad Bunny are behind him in that regard.

At this point 2 weeks ago, Future's album occupied the entire top 16.
