One of The real big issue here is that Hip-Hop was revitalized in the 10’s commercially because the genre’s fresh new acts were not street
Commercial hip-hop is trending in the opposite direction now where everything is trenches rap, and that’s not going to be nearly as viable commercially.
Lil Nas X is a singles artist. He's proved that with his last 2 projects.
For now.. in this age that works in his favor. It also took Rihanna 2 albums until she really broke out with Umbrella. He’ll find his stride. get a top notch team and some good writers and he’s in there.

Trap wave killed commercial rap. And surprise releases without hit singles just makes it worse.
Even Kendrick flopping, but he doesn't seem to care at this point, he probably just wanted to end his contract.

Kendrick seems to be more of a rapper that cares bout bringing something interesting than selling a lot tbh
Otherwise he wouldve never tried TPAB either

Well, I don't think the album was interesting tbh. I expect a better album from Game at this point, but he f***ed up making it too long. No one would admit it if it's better though. And he will onviously flop very hard.

For me and many others it was very interesting tho. See the AOTY thread
But i guess it's not for everyone, just like TPAB

It’s never just one singular answer but I agree with you. Surprise drops, giving a week’s notice has run its course. Bring back traditional roll outs with singles and put your artists out in front of people for magazines, interviews etc
I’m simply saying what sticks out to me is that in 2010 the big time ‘new’ acts were like Drake, Cudi, Cole, Sean, wale, wiz, guys who’s image could easily translate and easily digestible commercially
In 2022, the new hot acts are lil baby, lil durk, est gee, etc. and there’s a direct correlation there.
I also point out that like, this really isn’t just a hip hop thing. All forms of entertainment are suffering post March of 2020

Does interesting matter?
I mean I’m sure it ‘does’ but what does it matter if it’s reach doesn’t expand past curiosity listens?

I guess it does otherwise you wouldnt have a lot unique music
Most music aint selling that good remember that. There are so many amazing albums out that don't even go gold

TPAB honestly got more hate on KTT than this album
TPAB honestly got more hate on KTT than this album
I don’t remember that during release, I only remember it getting hate later for “no replay value”

For sure. If TPAB came out today KTT would just meme tf out of "this d*** aint free" and call it trash mysterious music lol
Bad Bunny is king

I don't even like the newer guys, and the ones I liked are dead so...
I think Lil Baby, Durk, Gunna, are just so boring for a whole project.
So to me it's still the same 3 guys just like a decade ago. Drake, Kendrick and Cole, and I barely like the last 2.

It did lmao. I remember the threads
Damn Post didnt even go #1
These are projections based on first few days, official numbers are at end of week
with a song from 2021
doja cat hits got legs
They’re all useless and a net negative, you might love Drake but for context what has the time yielded that people invested in listening to BTS Harry Styles Post Malone or Taylor swift compared what those kids or adults could’ve done
What kind of dumbass logic is this lol there’s infinite distractions in the world but you think music is what’s holding people back?
