How do y’all even know this?
songs couldn’t chart without being sold as a single first before they changed it
so if you wanted a certain song you would just buy the single if they made it
but according to them it was killing album sales
so they would stop putting singles out or limited time drop them which made you have to buy the whole record
Niggas paying 12 dollars for a song
And people have the nerve to pretend like things were better back then
Fr lol. Literally the only era where most albums were bought for the sake of listening to actual albums was the 70s
If anything streaming is showing the listener’s intent in actual numbers as opposed to simply buying an album and being able to infer the intent behind buying it.
What I mean is if Scorpion for example was in the physical era, these stats that reflect listener intent would be the same - except we wouldn’t be able to see that intent in percentages like we can in your post. All we could see is “well they bought the album”
This is all true, but that type of emotional connection existed because we make an emotional connection out of merchandised objects. Now that you don’t have to buy CDs to listen to music anymore, albums are no longer merchandise and thus that default emotional connection is gone

He's releasing way more music than anyone else on that list to be able to put up the numbers he's doing but it's still impressive regardless.
