    Synopsis

you could make an album like that without putting an actual abuser on it lol

You truly believe he’s too dumb to not see that it was a contradiction, that’s what pissing me off rn

I’m starting to wonder if you actually even listened to the album, with so many endless lines about black trauma and the rape and abuse of slaves leading to generational rape and abuse in black households, and how this trickled down to brothers like Kodak, and how kendrick overcame his own trauma to transform as a human

Dude is literally just trying to set an example for his peers that ideally would lead to a ripple effect. Kodak appreciates the opportunity now to be on a big kendrick album, when Kodak in his 40s you don’t think he gonna look up to Kendrick and what he said on this album about transformation and ridding of toxic traits?

And that’s completely ignoring the part of the album that actually literally has kendrick pleading with young brothers to realize what they doing to our women lol

This is why its weird to bring politics into music tho because he’s onstage dressed like Jesus saying “Godspeed to womens rights” meanwhile the artist with the most guest features on his album is a guy that pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a girl in high school

and he threw a fit when spotify said they were taking X & R kelly’s music off

    Synopsis is a funny man

Nigga will sit there doing all sorts of mental gymnastics regarding sociology and whatever philosophical utopian system he dreams of but will invest 0 critical thinking into such a simple concept

I don’t have any tremendously strong feelings about Kodak being on his album. I see both sides but lean more on the side of thinking it wasn’t necessary. I’m not “outraged” about it but I consider it another example of Kendrick being a flawed, pretentious person

I get the point that you’re making about him using Kodak to make the point about generational trauma/abuse. but my thing is… anyone who is insightful enough to think about the deeper meaning behind the album and properly contextualize Kodak’s appearance probably doesn’t need a lesson on black generational trauma

I also think recording a song with someone that they could make hella bank off of is a pretty weird way to teach them how to grow. Kendrick could have easily exerted that influence and helped Kodak see the error of his ways in a simple man-to-man conversation if he really cared about that man’s growth and well-being.

realistically speaking, I doubt he seriously gives a f*** about the crimes that man has inflicted against women. if he did, then Kodak wouldn’t have made the album without first taking accountability for his actions. the way I see it, Kendrick rewarded the dude and used art as a copout for doing so

Art is never a copout lol, it just made you type 4 paragraphs on a monday morning. Why would he randomly wanna reward Kodak for no reason lol, knowing how insightful kendrick shown to be his whole career, and especially at his older age now, that just wouldn’t make any sense

Also 2nd paragraph couldnt be more wrong, a song like Auntie Diaries wasn’t written for LGBT-friendly folk like you and me to hear, its clearly meant to reach people unfamiliar with that concept and humanize trans people to them. Same applies to what he was saying about generational trauma

It's a lot of mental gymnastics itt throwing a cape on for Kendrick and his contradictory nature on the album and performance attire when I think it can be very simply explained with:

Kodak is popping and he doesn't care that he likely raped a supposed teenager. And the Christ imagery is controversial and much like Kanye with his Messiah Complex, Kendrick thinks he can save and forgive people...even though he has no place to given the alleged acts of the people he says should be forgiven.

It was corny af when Kanye did it.
It is corny af with Kendrick doing it.

I'm just gonna recognize it as lame and ignore it. I still enjoy the music enough for what it is.

when a multimillionaire popular artist puts a rapist on his album and tries to deflect all criticism from it bc he’s making a point (a dumbass point, at that), yes it is a copout. nothing you say can change that

I doubt Kendrick gives a f*** about Kodak or sexual assault victims bc if he did, he wouldn’t be giving Kodak a platform and perpetuating the same mentality that allows rapists and predators to walk free in real-life.

you know damn well that if someone sexually assaulted you or someone you know, you wouldn’t be applauding Kendrick for putting them on the album to make a point about black trauma. you’d call it out for the f***shit that it is.

but if it makes you feel “deep” to argue otherwise, then go ahead and die on that hill man
